Professor Sergey Sementsov Elected RAAСS Corresponding Member

On 19 April, 2024, Sergey Vladimirovich Sementsov, DSc in Architecture, Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Urban Planning, was elected by the general meeting of members of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences as a corresponding member of the academy in the Urban Planning department.

Sergey Vladimirovich was born in 1952 in Leningrad. In 1969 he entered the LISI Faculty of Urban Planning. In 1975, after defending his diploma, he began working at the Leningrad General Plan Workshop, which developed a project for the comprehensive preservation and development of the historical city center, projects for the restoration of individual historical quarters, Nevsky Prospekt, and studied the history of the formation of urban development.

At the same time, he developed a system for identifying and protecting architectural and cultural monuments, forming protective zoning, including protective zones for monuments, groups of monuments and a united protective zone of the entire historical center of Leningrad. On orders from the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, he prepared passports for historical and cultural monuments and carried out state historical and cultural examinations of cultural heritage sites.

Sergey Sementsov has published more than 300 articles and monographs on the problems of studying historical buildings and historical urban planning of St Petersburg.

Sergey Vladimirovich is a member of the Union of Architects of St Petersburg. In 2012–2017 was the dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture.
