As the dean of the Faculty of Architecture Ekaterina Vozniak said, students of the Department of Architectural Environment Design are participating in the development of library concepts for the second year in a row and show a high level of their work.

“Students find this kind of work interesting both in terms of creativity and the opportunity to develop good practical skills, as they examine existing objects. In turn, libraries receive interior designs that are close to professional. The authors of this joint initiative were the chairman of the organizing committee of the Golden Trezzini Award, Pavel Chernyakov, and the head of the Department of Architectural Environment Design, Maria Granstrem. We are glad that thanks to them, the best submitted works will be selected for this award,” said Ekaterina Voznyak.

Павел Черняков Pavel Chernyakov

Pavel Chernyakov clarified that two Golden Trezzini Award nominations have been established for students, and library concept projects will be considered in the “Best student public space projects” category. “All works submitted for the award will be reviewed by the jury. This means that famous architects from many countries will know about you. Therefore, participation in the competition will be one of the best trips to professional activity,” he addressed the students.

Maria Granstrem explained that the development of the concepts was based on the idea of integrated solutions: students were offered libraries located in the villages of the Leningrad region in problem buildings that require renovation.

“The guys were able to develop not only interesting interior ideas. They transformed the environment - created stylish facades, entrance areas, “linking” the interior of the libraries with the exterior. In the concepts of interior spaces, we saw not only interesting redevelopments, color and texture solutions, and modern lighting. Students were able to complete a total design challenge by designing furniture and fixtures, wayfinding style, marketing tools, and graphic design elements. The presented projects are the best among third-year designers,” explained Maria Granstrem.

Ирина Семёнова Irina Semenova

Director of the Leningrad Regional Universal Scientific Library Irina Semenova emphasized that the opportunity to win an award of such a high level increases student interest in the competition for the best concept for the interiors of existing libraries in the Leningrad Region.

“In the presented projects, the guys reveal their unique stories. They are comfortable for both visitors and library workers who need a professional view on creating an indoor environment,” says Irina Semenova.

The President of the St Petersburg Library Society, Zoya Chalova, proposed organizing exhibitions of the best projects in the city's libraries so that as many people as possible could see them. This will increase the chance to implement projects, and possibly receive new orders.
