Exhibition “Architecture of the Arctic. SPbGASU" opened at our university on 26 February. It is timed to coincide with the II All-Russian Arctic Youth Forum “Arctic: New Generation”, which will be held on the territory of the Kronstadt Museum of Naval Glory on 5 March.

The exhibition presents the results of the university’s work on the Arctic architecture, urban planning, and environmental design. According to Aleksandra Eremeeva, Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Design, these areas have been actively developing at the Faculty of Architecture since 2019. SPbGASU is part of the consortium of educational organizations “The Future of Arctic Architecture and Climate Dynamics” and actively cooperates with the Arctic regions.

Irina Lugovskaia

According to Vice-Rector for Youth Policy Irina Lugovskaia, many researchers are working on Arctic issues at SPbGASU. SPbGASU scientists not only receive invitations to various events, but also become their initiators. The students are interested in the Arctic: last year they actively participated in the organization and holding of the 1st Arctic Youth Forum “The Arctic: New Generation”. This year they are also among the activists.

Mikhail Mamoshin

Andrey Anokhin, Deputy Chairman of the St Petersburg Committee for Arctic Affairs, emphasized the importance of integrating youth into the Arctic state agenda. He promised to support youth initiatives and invited students to the upcoming forum.

Honored Architect of the Russian Federation, graduate of LISI/SPbGASU Mikhail Mamoshin named our university one of the leaders of the Arctic agenda. The architect called on the younger generation to correct the mistakes of the Soviet period in the development of the Arctic and invited them to participate in innovative developments. In his opinion, a new trend could be the creation of a department of Arctic architecture.

Ekaterina Vozniak

Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Ekaterina Vozniak emphasized that the university is actively working at the level of bachelors, masters, and PhD students. The dean expressed the hope that work on the Arctic topic at SPbGASU will develop at the doctoral level.

Associate Professor at the Department of Architectural Design Fedor Perov is sure that the North is unique and colorful, for many it is terra incognita. At the opening of the exhibition, the teacher spoke about the continuity between generations of researchers and how the educational process in the Arctic is organized at SPbGASU. Students participate in research and design expeditions, following which they complete diploma projects. Most of these projects receive high marks at competitions.

Fedor Perov

Thus, the winner of the VI International Architectural and Design Award “Golden Trezzini 2023” in the category “Best student project of a building or structure” was Viktoria Ivanova. The student designed a multifunctional public and business complex on the Poluy River embankment in Salekhard. Now Viktoria is studying for a master's degree, and her focus is on another city - Monchegorsk, Murmansk region.

Together with Andrey Anokhin, Viktoria cut the symbolic ribbon at the opening of the exhibition.

Exhibition “Architecture of the Arctic. SPbGASU" will be open in the exhibition hall of the Faculty of Architecture until 20 March.
