We are the core degree awarding department of the Faculty of Architecture. About 500 students master Architecture in the bachelor’s and master’s degree programs at our department.Currently, the department employs more than 20 teachers with rich experience in practical work in the field of architecture, including two DSc in Engineering, three Professors, six PhD holders, eight Associate Professors, including two corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Construction Sciences (L P. Lavrov, Yu. I. Kurbatov), members of the International Academy of Architecture (L. P. Lavrov, Yu. I. Kurbatov, O. S. Romanov). O.S. Romanov is the President of the St Petersburg Union of Architects. 18 teachers are members of the Union of Architects of Russia.
The teachers of the department are practicing architects or head architectural workshops (S.I. Ivanov, A.V. Mikhalychev, F.V. Perov, L.A. Venatovskaya, I.A. Ivanov, B.L. Krundyshev, O.S. Romanov, Yu. P. Gruzdev, I. N. Demenov, V. E. Lyavdansky, N. S. Novokhodskaya, E. G. Voitsekhovskaya).

Dear collegues, friends! Welcome to the webpage of the Department of Architectural Design.
Specialization in architecture is one of the most interesting, creative, and highly demanded. Almost all of our students, after completing their studies, work in their specialty, and the most talented and creative guys are really hunted by the city's architectural studios. Many students begin independent architectural practice, participate in professional competitions, and often become their laureates.
The quality of education at the department meets the most stringent international standards. Evidence of this is the numerous victories of our students at international reviews of student works in Germany, Italy, and the USA. The department conducts international summer schools together with the universities of Berlin, Washington, and Florence. Often our students continue to receive architectural education abroad.
In addition to the educational process, the department holds creative competitions for diplomas and course works, and provides students with the opportunity to implement their most interesting projects. Over the past years, our diplomas have received the highest ratings at international and all-Russian competitions. The works of students of the department became laureates of the All-Russian competition of innovative projects “Architectural Image of Russia”. In this regard, the authority of the department is high not only at our university, but also among architectural schools throughout the country.
