Postgraduate Department

     The University carries out education of scientific-pedagogical and scientific staff through postgraduate studies, doctoral studies, competition, promotion to the posts of scientific employees for preparation of the theses for Doctor's degree and granting of creative holidays.
     The Postgraduate Department was established in 1928 and has been training highly qualified specialists in five fields of science, 17 scientific specialties at 37 Сhairs. On graduating from the Department young specialists are granted PhD and DSc after they have defended their theses. Education is provided full-time and part-time. Foreigners study here on a contract basis.
     The basic directions of scientific research in the oldest Russian construction higher school are the following:

•  issues concerning building, reconstruction and restoration of buildings and constructions, including culture and architecture monuments;
•  ecology and influence of economic activities of the state on environment;
•  matters of a transport infrastructure in the conditions of evolution of historical cities;
•  application of mathematical techniques and methods in natural science problem solving;
•  problems of the organization and management of erecting buildings and constructions in the conditions of market relations;
•  problems of a spiritual life at the present stage of development of a society.

     Along with profound general-theoretical preparation of post-graduate students and competitors on special disciplines, history and philosophy and foreign languages there take place classes on studying economy, computer facilities, mathematical modeling, legislation system, psychology and pedagogic science.
     
     Dissertational works are carried out at high scientific and technical level and focused in perspective directions of development of the building science.
