Education for foreign citizens

Dear foreign citizens studying at SPbGASU!

Please, consider that you need to inform the dean's office of the faculty where you study about your location and your current e-mail address, so that the dean's office, departments can send you the acute information about the organization of the educational process on time, as well as for you to use the electronic educational system.

St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering accepts and organizes the training of foreign citizens in order to train specialists for foreign countries.

Education of foreign citizens at faculties, postgraduate and doctoral studies is carried out in all fields and specialties in which Russian specialists are trained at the university.

Documents for issuing an invitation to SPbGASU

To issue an invitation to study (for visa countries), you must send the following documents by e-mail: pvs@spbgasu.ru 

  1. A clear copy of the international passport with a translation into Russian. The passport must be valid for at least two years from the date of application for study.
  2. A completed application form.
  3. For applicants to the preparatory department - send a copy of the document on education with a translation into Russian (the translation must be certified by the Embassy or Consulate of the Russian Federation in the country of issue of the document on education) or a certificate of study from the educational institution.

After receiving an invitation, you need to contact the Embassy or Consulate of the Russian Federation in your country to apply for a study visa to St Petersburg.

Please, note that

The term for issuing an invitation from the moment the documents are received by the employees of the SPbGASU passport and visa service is about 5 weeks.

After receiving a bank card, you must provide information about its receipt to the accounting department (Main building, room 112) during reception hours:
Monday to Thursday: 9:15 – 12:00; 14:00 - 17:30;
Friday: 9:15 – 12:00; 14:00 - 16:30.

Information for foreign citizens enrolled in the first year of intramural studies


Training is provided on a contractual basis, through the direction of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation or on a common basis with Russian citizens.

Admission of foreign citizens to SPbGASU is carried out in accordance with the University's Admission rules.

The academic year consists of two semesters starting in September and February. Foreign citizens study in general groups together with Russian students.

Classes are conducted in the Russian language

Duration of study depends upon the chosen field of study or specialty:
— Bachelor's programs – 4 or 5 years;
— Specialist's programs – 5 or 6 years;
— Master's programs – 2 years.
Foreign students who successfully graduate from the university receive a state-recognised bachelor's, specialist's or master's degree in accordance with the program of study, and postgraduate and doctoral graduates who successfully defend their thesis receive a PhD or a DSc degree in the relevant field.

In order to prepare for studying at the university, foreign citizens can join a preparatory department, aimed at studying or mastering the Russian language and certain basic disciplines by foreign citizens for nine months according to the program of the Russian secondary school in the Russian language.

The cost of study depends on the chosen specialty or field of study and is established by order of the rector for each academic year. An agreement is concluded with each foreign citizen, which is valid for the entire period of study. Upon termination of the contract for any reason specified in it, a new contract is concluded at the cost of education, annually established by the university.

During its existence, the university has trained over 2,500 specialists for foreign countries. Graduates of our university work in many countries of the world. In most countries, SPbGASU diplomas are recognized on a par with European and American ones. Over the past 60 years, our university has not received a single complaint regarding the level of training of specialists for foreign countries.
