Preparatory Department for Foreign Applicants

The SPbGASU Preparatory Department accepts foreign citizens who do not speak Russian or whose Russian language proficiency is insufficient, planning to master the university basic educational programs.

The study at the Preparatory Department starts in early October. Training is carried out in groups of 8 to 12 people. Upon completion of training (in July), foreign students take exams in the chosen field of study: for technical areas of training they are Russian, Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science; for economic specialties - Russian and Mathematics; for architectural - Russian, Mathematics and Drawing.

Foreign students who have fully completed the curriculum and successfully passed all exams receive a Certificate of Completion of the SPbGASU Preparatory Department. After successfully passing the entrance examinations, graduates of the Preparatory Department can be admitted to the first year of the corresponding faculty of the university.

Admission of foreign citizens to the preparatory department

Admission of foreign citizens under quotas of the RF Government

Step 1. Application
  • Register and apply on the website https://education-in-russia.com/, following the instructions;
  • Upload all the required documents to your personal account on the site (passport, education document with a statement of grades, completed application form, photograph, motivation letter (if required);
  • Wait for your candidacy to be approved.

Step 2. Candidacy approval

If your candidacy is approved, in your personal account on the website https://education-in-russia.com/ you will see the name of the educational organization in which you will study. Contact this educational organization as quickly as possible to receive all the necessary information about coming to Russia.


Step 3. Visa application

After the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation has approved your candidacy, a visa instruction with a number will be sent to your personal account on the website https://education-in-russia.com/ . With this number you must contact the Embassy of the Russian Federation in your country to obtain a study visa.


Step 4. Preparation of required documents

Before going to Russia, you must prepare the following documents:

  • A clear copy of the international passport (all pages) with a notarized translation into Russian. Passport must be valid for at least two years fr om the date of application for study;
  • Legalized in the prescribed manner (if necessary) * document on education indicating the qualification (degree) obtained, subjects studied and grades received with translation into Russian. The translation of the education document must be certified by the Embassy or Consulate of the Russian Federation in the country wh ere the education document was issued;
  • Medical certificate stating that you have no medical restrictions to study abroad issued no later than 3 months ago officially translated into Russian;
  • The result of fluorography done no more than a year ago.
*Legalization implies the completion of a number of certain formal procedures to give a document legal force in the territory of another state in order to be able to submit it to the official authorities of another state.

Step 5. Notify of your arrival

Notify of your arrival no later than 7 days in advance (date, flight number, place of crossing the border of the Russian Federation) by email prep.faculty@spbgasu.ru or by phone: +7 (812) 316-73-14


Step 6. Migration registration

When crossing the border of the Russian Federation, fill out the migration card, indicating STUDY / EDUCATION in the field “Purpose of visit / Purpose of travel”.

During the first working day after entering Russia, report to the SPbGASU Passport and Visa Unit at the address:

  • Passport + copies of all passport pages, including blank pages
  • Entry visa
  • Migration card
  • Medical insurance for one year, valid fr om the date of crossing the border of the Russian Federation

Step7. Enrollment

To complete the enrollment procedure and receive additional information about further studies, come to the Preparatory Department of International Relations Division

Step 8. Checking into the hostel

Students of the preparatory department are provided with a dormitory; the costs of living in the dormitory are borne by the student. The cost of living per month is 1500 rubles. Before moving into the dormitory, you must obtain a certificate from the university medical and preventive center.

Provide the following documents:
  • Passport, passport translation;
  • Medical certificate stating that you have no medical restrictions to study and stay in Russia, with an examination period of no more than three months before arrival at the university, as well as a certificate of vaccinations and their translation into Russian;
  • Medical insurance for one year, valid from the date of crossing the border of the Russian Federation;
  • Fluorography results (without fluorography results, the student will be denied accommodation in a dormitory).

After receiving the certificate, a direction to the hostel will be issued, which will need to be provided to the commandant of the hostel.

Admission of foreign citizens on a paid basis

Step 1. To issue an invitation:
  • Fill out the application using the attached form;
  • Prepare a clear copy of your foreign passport (all pages) with a translation* into Russian. The passport must be valid for at least two years from the date of application for study;
  • Prepare a copy of the education document or certificate of education from the educational institution with a translation into Russian (the translation must be certified by the Embassy or Consulate of the Russian Federation in the country wh ere the education document was issued) *;
  • Send prepared documents by email: prep.faculty@spbgasu.ru;
  • Wait for a response to your letter with an attached contract and payment receipt;
  • Sign the contract, pay the receipt, and send scans of the signed contract and paid receipt by e-mail: prep.faculty@spbgasu.ru;
  • The invitation will be sent to your email address within 30 days;
  • After receiving the invitation, you must contact the embassy or consulate of the Russian Federation in your country to obtain an entry study visa to St Petersburg.
