From 22 April to 30 September, 2024, the III Annual All-Russian architectural competition “Green Tourist Shelter” will take place. Students of architectural universities are invited to participate. The winner of the competition will be provided with a grant for the development of a set of working documentation for the corresponding project.
The Russian government is making efforts to expand the tourism market. In particular, the creation of modular, prefabricated accommodation facilities that are most suitable for outdoor recreation is subsidized. The “Green Tourist Shelter” competition is aimed at finding fresh ideas for solving such architectural tasks. Participants in the competition will be asked to develop conceptual solutions for the creation, arrangement and operation of environmentally and cost-effective, comfortable and safe facilities for shelter from bad weather and for overnight stays necessary for travelers in the natural environment.
The competition is organized by the Research Institute for Sustainable Development in Construction (NIIURS) with the support of SPbGASU and the year-round mountain resort Rosa Khutor.
The start of the competition will be marked by a student clause: SPbGASU students will be asked to develop a draft concept for a green shelter for travelers and present their work to the panelists. Their authors will thus get a kind of head start if they decide to participate in the All-Russian competition.
“Travelers' experiences in the natural environment require specific characteristics for tourism infrastructure - accessibility, safety, autonomy, sustainability and comfort. The task of combining these characteristics, taking into account the strict restrictions of urban planning activities in natural areas, in the conceptual design of a modular accommodation facility is exactly within the capabilities of the young architects whom we are preparing for the profession. Looking at the development of domestic tourism in Russia, I believe that our graduates, if they decide to specialize in tourism infrastructure, will definitely not be left without work,” said Oleg Fedorov, Deputy Dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture for Career Guidance Counceling.
And while the students will develop draft concepts, the problems of sustainable development of infrastructure for nature tourism will be the subject of a public discussion at a round table at SPbGASU. Its participants will be: Vera Burtseva, director of the ANO “Research Institute for Sustainable Development in Construction”; Anton Golovin, vice-president, head of the council for sustainable architecture of the Union of Architects of St Petersburg; Dmitry Kolosov, director of sustainable development of the Rosa Khutor resort; Sergey Lutchenko, First Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Urban Development Policy - Chief Architect of the Leningrad Region; and Oleg Fedorov. The event will take place on 22 April at 17:00 in the space “Growth Point” (former cafe of the Faculty of Architecture, 4, 2nd Krasnoarmeiskaya St. architectural entrance). Registration is required to participate.
The results of the competition will be announced from 1 to 14 October, 2024.
