The Committee on Science and Higher Education of the Government of St Petersburg and the Council of University Rectors in St Petersburg and the Leningrad Region are holding the “Student of the Year 2024” competition. The basis for the competition is the Decree of the Government of St Petersburg dated 22 December, 2014 No. 1230 “On personalized scholarships of the Government of St Petersburg for the winners and laureates of the competition “Student of the Year” in the higher education system in St Petersburg” and the state program “Economy of Knowledge in St Petersburg".

The purpose of the competition: to encourage students of the Northern capital for active participation in scientific, sports, creative and social activities, to stimulate their creativity development.

The competition is held in the following nominations:

• the best in scientific and technical creativity;
• the best in university sports;
• the best in patriotic work;
• the best in organizing interethnic and international cooperation (tolerance);
• the best in organizing the activities of student labor squads;
• the best in organizing the activities of the voluntary (volunteer) movement;
• the best promoter and organizer in the field of a healthy lifestyle;
• the best in artistic creativity;
• the best organizer of creative and leisure programs;
• the best organizer of student self-government in an educational organization of higher education;
• the best organizer of student self-government in the dormitory;
• the best organizer of work with student groups.

The competiton is open to:

• full-time students in bachelor's and specialist's educational programs of the second and higher years of study, full-time master's students - first or second year in case of continuing education after a specialist's or bachelor's degree at the same university or second year in case of continuing education in another university, nominated for participation in the competition by St Petersburg universities;
• full-time students in bachelor's and specialist's educational programs of the second and higher years of study, living on the Interuniversity campus of St Petersburg, full-time master's students - first or second year in case of continuing to live in the IUC after studying in specialist's or bachelor's degree programs or second year in case of accommodation in the IUC after living in other places during the study period in specialist's or bachelor's programs, nominated for participation in the  competition by the IUC.

An organization can nominate no more than one student in each nomination to participate in the competition. A student can be nominated to participate in the competition of the corresponding year in no more than one nomination. Winners and laureates of the competition may be re-submitted to participate in the competition in the same category no earlier than two years later.

Application deadline: 11 October 2024.

The official ceremony following the results of the competition will take place no later than 29 November, 2024 (details will be announced additionally). Participants of the competition will be invited to the ceremony by phone or email specified in the application form.
