On 26 October, St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering will host a presentation of Sergey Kompaniychenko’s photo album “St Petersburg in the Necklace of Bridges".
The book introduces readers to the bridges of the Northern capital, the history of their construction and reconstruction, the remarkable monuments of urban bridge construction that were erected from the first days of the city's foundation. The album presents 265 St Petersburg bridges, shows the role of bridge structures in shaping the urban environment, their beauty and diversity. Photography for the album was carried out at all times of the year under a variety of weather conditions. Included are photographs taken from a helicopter and from a hot air balloon. The book specifies brief technical characteristics of the depicted bridges and the years of their construction.
Sergey Kompaniychenko graduated from the Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute (now SPbGASU) in 1976 and worked for 14 years in the construction complex of the city on the Neva, took part in the construction of a complex to protect St Petersburg from floods. Since 1990 he has been a photojournalist. Since 1999, a member of the Union of Photographers of Russia. He published a number of photo albums and was awarded professional awards.
The author will talk about the work on the publication and give a copy of it to the SPbGASU Scientific and Technical Library.
