A Rosatom project session at SPbGASU
On January 29, 2020, a project session on the development of the Engineering Design Competency of WorldSkills, Russia, was held at St. Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering with the participation of representative of the Rosatom State Corporation, ETM Company, Ural Federal University (UFU) and the SPbGASU expert community.
Participants of the project session at SPbGASU
The Engineering Design Competency was developed for the quality training of young Rosatom professionals and is nowadays included in the AtomSkills-2020 and WorldSkills HighTech championship programs. It is aimed at developing interdisciplinary team design skills for industrial facilities through using information modeling technology.
The State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom was represented by the head of the GSPI JSC design institute Timur Agayev, chief competence expert. Besides him, project manager of the ETM Company Andrey Chumanov, the head of educational projects of the ETM Vadim Silin and teacher at the Institute of Construction and Architecture of the UFU Maxim Bambulevich attended the project. Denis Nizhegorodtsev, assistant professor at the Department of Metal and Wooden Constructions spoke on behalf of SPbGASU. He shared his experience in holding BIM championships at SPbGASU.
Timur Agaev and Andrey Chumanov spoke about the prospects for the development of the Engineering Design Competency.
The need to develop such a competency as Engineering Design is dictated primarily by the changes of recent years in business requirements to training. A modern specialist for successful work on projects should be competent not only in a specific field, but also the adjacent ones. To increase the attractiveness of design engineers on the labor market, an interdisciplinary approach must be introduced to the training of engineering personnel. Formation and timely updating of WSSS (WorldSkills Standards Specification) will help harmonize professional and educational standards and improve the skills of future specialists.
Engineering design is the competence of the WorldSkills Russia Young Professionals National Championship, in which participants demonstrate design skills using information modeling technology.
We strive to disseminate best practices and experience to train specialists of a new level. In the future, the adaptation period for next-generation engineers will be 14 working days. As part of the development of the Engineering Design Competency, we plan to introduce a demonstration exam into the training practice of educational institutions as a tool for testing actual skills. This will help immediately determine the level of graduates’ training and attract potential employers.
The parties paid special attention to the methodology for evaluating the results at case championships in engineering design and the opportunities for students to participate in the AtomSkills-2020 and WorldSkills Russia-2020 championships.
The meeting resulted in making plans for joint work on the development of the Engineering Design Competency.
