Active car hood to protect pedestrians

SPbGASU scientists make a great contribution to improving road safety. One of the latest developments is an active car hood for pedestrian protection (utility model patent No. 204399). The authors of the utility model are Professor of the Department of Land Transport Technological Machines Sergey Repin, Head of the Department of Transport Systems, Associate Professor Stanislav Evtyukov, Associate Professor of the Department of Land Transport Technological Machines Stanislav Grushetsky and Dean of the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building Andrey Zazykin.

The utility model relates to external passive safety devices for passenger cars, namely to the design of body elements, in particular, the hood. Measures to improve external passive safety are aimed at reducing the severity of injury to pedestrians in a collision with a vehicle.

The active car hood for pedestrian protection contains a cover, brackets for fastening the rear part to the car frame and an emergency cover lifting device. To protect the pedestrian, the hood instantly rises before the moment of collision and absorbs the impact by means of pneumatic cylinders. Thus, the claimed utility model makes it possible to provide multiple actuation of the active car hood to protect pedestrians while simultaneously adjusting the hood damping. It also provides easy access to the engine compartment. All this allows you to increase the external passive safety of the car..

Improving road safety is one of the main areas of inventive activity of the Department of Land Transport Technological Machines of SPbGASU, most of whose employees are also employees of the Institute of Road Safety of SPbGASU, headed by the director of the Director of IRS, head of the department of LTTM Sergey Evtyukov.
