On 18th February, 2017 the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building of the St.-Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering opened their doors to children. The eldest participant of the action this year was a first class pupil, and the youngest –from a kindergarten. Nevertheless, nobody from the visitors remained indifferent.
Using the helping tips on the walls, children searched for the interactive surprises "hidden" in the classrooms. So, on the Chair of Highways, Bridges and Tunnels they could see a board model of a real road and shared their knowledge of traffic and its participants. On the Chair of Over-Ground and Transport Technological Machines everyone could work as a crane operator on a board model of a crane from the equipped workplace. On the Chair of Transport Systems children were traffic controllers of road movement, switching traffic lights on a hand control panel. And on the Chair of Technical Exploitation of Transport Means they got acquainted with a design of a car and could touch the details of cars, one of which - a big nut - together with balls they received as a gift for memory.
The action was held in the frameworks of the actions dated the anniversary of the University and one of its departments – the faculty of automobile and road building.
On 7th October,1947, considering increasing requirement for restoration of the infrastructure destroyed by the war, for the accelerated training of auto-road engineers and bridge builders 135 students of the second and third courses from the Moscow auto-road institute were sent to SPSUACE (that time - Leningrad Civil Engineering Institute(LCEI). The faculty of automobile and road building continued the training experts started in 1930 – 1940s in the Leningrad auto-road institute (LARI), closed in 1940, and the faculty of automobile and road building is considered to be its legal successor.
During 70-year-old history the faculty of automobile and road building became one of the leaders in the Northwest, carrying out complex professional training for the auto-road branch. At the faculty a lot of generations of experts have been training. Someone is successfully working and supervising over the profile enterprises, someone has graduated from postgraduate study and now is working in the University, someone has children, also interested in cars and building technics, roads and traffic lights.
Probably, such actions will take place again and become a good addition to the School of the future engineers-motorists operating on the basis of the faculty.
