Conference on Economics and Management Took Place at SPbGASU
The second inter-university conference "Economics and Management: Trends and Prospects", organized at SPbGASU on March 1 in an online format, was devoted to the most important present-day economic issues. “You are the ones to deal with these problems. There is a wide field of activity here", said Yury Panibratov, Professor of the SPbGASU Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure, DSc in Economics, addressing young participants of the conference.

“We have talented students and good prospects”, emphasized the Head of the Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure, Professor Veronica Asaul, DSc in Economics, who spoke about the Department’s work and the support provided by the Housing Committee of Saint Petersburg, especially its Chairman Viktor Borshchev and Deputy Chairman Stepan Kuralov.
In addition to representatives of SPbGASU, the conference was attended by specialists from ITMO University, St. Petersburg Polytechnic University, St. Petersburg State Economic University, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration, Yaroslavl Technical University, St. Petersburg University of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Donbass National Academy of Civil Engineering and Architecture, Norilsk Industrial Institute, Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, Samara State University of Economics, Volga Region College of Construction and Energy.
The conference was organized by the SPbGASU Faculty of Economics and Management and the Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure. The programme consisted of a plenary session and four sections.
Within the framework of the section "Economics and Management in Construction and Urban Environment" (coordinated by Alexander Skidan, PhD student of the Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure), Mikhail Kireev, a student of St. Petersburg State University of Economics (UNECON), considered ways of modernizing the economy of Russian single-industry municipalities (“monotowns”). The speaker noted it is necessary to look for new areas of the local economy development, as well as to form groups of interconnected companies in order to increase labour productivity, profit level and employment rates. Easing the bureaucratic barriers and giving entrepreneurs more freedom of action is one of the most effective measures to modernize local economy.

Ekaterina Baranetskaya, a Master’s degree student of SPbGASU (academic supervisor –Associate Professor Vadim Koscheev, DSc in Economics) presented her research work dedicated to the challenges and prospects of using cloud technologies in construction at the conference section "Prospects for the Development of Innovative and Digital Technologies in Construction" (coordinated by postgraduate student of the Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure Yury Tsvetkov). The author proposed the following solutions: the risk of data loss can be minimized by storing the data on local servers; to reduce dependence on the service provider it is necessary to create a backup communication channel; significant costs during developing a private cloud storage can be optimized by rental of software.

At the meeting of the section "Transformation of the Russian Economy in the Context of the Sixth Technological Paradigm" (coordinator – Master’s degree student Angelina Belyaeva), SPbGASU student Irina Morozova addressed the topic of accelerating innovation processes during the COVID-19 pandemic. The author mentioned positive economic consequences of the pandemic, such as the automation and digitalization of work processes, the strengthening of companies due to mergers, the increase in operational efficiency and profitability.

Problems of housing renovations were analyzed by SPbGASU student Daniil Zvonov and Artemy Taranov, a postgraduate student and assistant of the Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure, within the conference section "Interaction of the Public Sector and Business Structures in Current Economic Conditions" (coordinated by Master’s student Yulia Penchukova). The most important objectives of the housing stock renovation, according to the authors, is providing residents with comfortable and safe housing, efficient use of housing stock, creating infrastructure facilities that will attract citizens and investors, as well as the profits to be received by investors through creating additional square meters of rentable area, which that can be used as offices and for trading purposes.

“Next year, the status of our conference is likely to be changed to international. A volume of the conference proceedings will be published with indexing in Scopus, and, in addition to the Housing Committee, our new partner will be the Committee for Science and Higher Education of St. Petersburg”, told Deputy Dean for Research of the SPbGASU Faculty of Economics and Management, professor of the Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure, Associate professor Vadim Koscheev, DSc in Economics.
