Day of the full liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade

On January 27, our country celebrates the Day of the full liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade. “This is a special holiday for our university. During the Great Patriotic War and the siege of Leningrad, about a thousand students, teachers, staff and graduates of LISI (now SPbGASU) defended their Motherland at the front.

Those who remained in Leningrad took part in solving defense problems and preserving architectural monuments, and developed plans for the restoration of the city and its unique suburbs. More than 220 people did not return from the war,” said Evgeny Rybnov, SPbGASU rector.

For participation in the defense of the city, many teachers, staff and students were awarded the medal "For the Defense of Leningrad", and the university itself was awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor for selfless work, perseverance and merits in strengthening the country's defense capability in 1945.

On this day, the city hosts events dedicated to the 78th anniversary of the full liberation of Leningrad from the Nazi blockade. One of them will take place in the Presidential Library named after B. N. Yeltsin, where the book “Gone to immortality. In memory of the 2nd Shock Army." will be presented. Evgeny Guryev, Associate Professor of the SPbGASU Department of History and Philosophy, who will speak at the presentation, took part in its preparation. The book was published with the active support of the State Company "Russian Highways" as part of the "Feat of the 2nd Shock Army" project, which since 2020 has been implemented by the Tavolga Foundation for the Development of Science and Culture with the participation of the Russian Historical Society and the Russian Military Historical society.

On January, 27 SPbGASU representatives will take part in the solemn laying of flowers at the memorial to the militias in the Leninsky district, in the park near the Baltic Railway Station.

No matter how many years pass, the feat of the defenders and residents of the city on the Neva will never fade. With a feeling of deep gratitude, we wish the veterans, blockade survivors, and children of the blockade good health, well-being, and long life!
