For the first time, Crimea became part of the Russian state in the 18th century, when on July 10 (21), 1774, the Kyuchuk-Kaynarji peace treaty was signed with Turkey. In 1921, the Crimean ASSR was formed as part of the RSFSR, and on June 30, 1945, it was transformed into the Crimean Region. In 1954, the Soviet leadership transferred the Crimean region to the Ukrainian SSR. On February 12, 1991, autonomy was again granted to Crimea, the region was transformed into the revived Crimean Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic. In 1992, as part of Ukraine, the autonomy was renamed the Republic of Crimea, and in 1994 - the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

✔ Against the backdrop of the political crisis in Ukraine following a referendum on March 16, 2014, the Supreme Council of the Republic of Crimea adopted a resolution in which the region was proclaimed an independent state and turned to Russia with a proposal to accept Crimea as part of the Russian Federation as a new region with the status of a republic. The same decision was made in Sevastopol. On March 18, 2014, Russian President Vladimir Putin, Chairman of the Council of Ministers of Crimea Sergei Aksyonov, Chairman of the State Council of Crimea Vladimir Konstantinov and Head of Sevastopol Alexei Chaly signed an agreement on the admission of the Republic of Crimea to the Russian Federation and the formation of new regions within the Russian Federation: the Republic of Crimea and the City of Federal meanings of Sevastopol.

The symbol of the reunification of Crimea with Russia has become the Crimean bridge - a transport passage through the Kerch Strait. Its grand opening took place on May 15, 2018.
