Greeting freshmen

The first-year student's day at SPbGASU, which took place on 31 August 31, turned into a large-scale celebration. The program included an introduction to the management and structure of the faculties, the learning process and extracurricular activities, tours of the university building, meetings with representatives of student squads and the sports club. In short, the day turned out to be solemn - with the state flag and anthem - and rich in pleasant impressions.

"Being a student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering is an honor"

"Today is a unique day in your life: you are taking your first steps in your professional activity at the oldest university, which has been training the engineering and construction elite for almost two hundred years. Construction has been and will be the locomotive of the economy, and by joining it, you will leave a positive social mark on the development of the country. The years of study are the most memorable period of life, but also the most difficult, since they require a lot of work and patience. I am sure that you will successfully master deep professional knowledge, and we will help you with this," Andrey Nikulin, Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, addressed the first-year students.

Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs Anna Novozhilova added that, having entered adult life, students are responsible for their decisions, and therefore much is in their hands.

“By striving for your goals, you will be able to acquire a great deal of knowledge, make friends for life, and we will be happy to present you with diplomas in front of a full hall in years to come,” said Anna Viktorovna.

As Vladimir Sharmanov, Head of the Information Modeling Department for Interaction with Government Agencies at EtalonTech LLC, noted in his speech, qualified specialists are always welcome in the construction industry.

"Today, construction is a high-tech industry, which is actively including digital technologies, which you will work with as certified specialists. The university will help you acquire the necessary competencies. But in addition to studying classical disciplines, you need to pay attention to self-development, and be additionally interested in trends in the industry. Since the founding of the institution, SPbGASU graduates have been leaders in construction progress, and you will have to continue this tradition, especially since there are opportunities for this: the industry is waiting for highly qualified personnel," he said.

Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs Maria Lazurina emphasized that the university has all the opportunities for self-development: electives are held and various additional programs are implemented.

"Thus, students acquire developed professional competencies that will subsequently allow them to become in demand on the labor market," noted Maria Aleksandrovna. She spoke in detail about the structure of the educational process and reminded that one can always contact the dean's office for clarification and assistance.

“Student life will be remembered not only for the studies, but also for extracurricular activities, which is full of exciting events and projects at SPbGASU,” continued the meeting Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs Anna Tsarenko.

The chairman of the student council of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, Roman Sinelnikov, suggested that first-year students contact him regarding the protection of students' rights, and also invited proactive guys who want to create and implement various activities to the student council.

Art leader of the "Kirpich" Student Creativity Club, third-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Sofya Ivanchuk told how to realize your creative abilities at the university.

"But there is a time for work and a time for fun. A student needs to know not only his rights, but also his responsibilities in order to avoid sad consequences. Compliance with the rules is the key to a peaceful study at the university and living in the dormitory and the city," reminded the head of the SPbGASU watch and guard service Stanislav Zharkov. He familiarized in detail with the safety rules, preventive measures to combat terrorism and extremism, the pass system at the university, and the dormitory regulations.

As the first-year students said, all the information that was heard at the meeting was interesting and useful. They are happy to be admitted to a prestigious university with a rich history and an impressive present.

A first-year student in the Industrial and Civil Engineering program Nadezhda Remigina from Boguchar, Voronezh Region, received a certificate with honors and 258 points on the Unified State Exam.

"At school, I initially loved the humanities, but when I started studying physics, I decided that my future specialty would be related to this technical science. I chose civil engineering as an interesting and in-demand field of study and a prestigious university in the field. Today, I am once again convinced that I made the right choice: there is a wonderful atmosphere here, it is very beautiful, and I am even confused by so many areas of extracurricular activities, but I will definitely find something for me," Nadezhda explained.

Her coursemate from Kursk, Gleb Nozdrachev, agrees: “I have 265 points in the Unified State Exam, I successfully passed the entrance exams for one of the priority fields of study, which I am proud of. I am sure that, having graduated from such a prestigious university, I will become a good specialist. By the way, my sister, who is the same age, also entered here, however, in a different area, so in the family we will become the founders of a dynasty of builders. I really liked the First-Year Student Day. Interesting speeches by representatives of the dean's office, a tour of the university. I think that I will take an active part in extracurricular activities,” Gleb said.

"A diploma from the best architectural school is a guarantee of a specialist's demand"

Opening the meeting, the dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture Ekaterina Vozniak noted that the first-year students not only passed a serious entrance competition, but also completed the creative task at a high level.

"It is difficult to pass entrance examinations, but now is not the time to relax either. The SPbGASU architectural school is one of the best and oldest in Russia, and to study here, you need to put in a lot of effort. But, having overcome all the difficulties, you will become highly qualified specialists and happy people doing a favorite and interesting professional job," Ekaterina Ryurikovna addressed the first-year students.

Deputy Dean for Career Guidance Counceling Oleg Fedorov added that the students entered one of the world's leading architectural schools. And this is not an exaggeration: the Faculty practices student exchange as part of its international activities, so the level of foreign architectural schools at SPbGASU is well known.

"My task is to help final-year students build a career, starting with pre-graduation practice. But the temptation to earn extra money may also arise with first-year bachelor's students. I advise you to abandon this idea, because combining study with work is not only difficult, but also fraught with gaps in knowledge, which can subsequently affect the level of professional competencies, and, as a result, employment. It is much more effective to first master the educational program and participate in architectural competitions, demonstrating there the freedom of your creative abilities. These are important steps in the profession that the Faculty supports," explained Oleg Fedorov.

You can start building a career, expand your professional opportunities, and demonstrate your abilities through scientific activity. This was reported by the Deputy Dean for Research Milena Zolotareva.

"The University is a fruitful platform for holding various scientific events for students, up to the international level. This is a great opportunity to implement your ideas," she concluded.

Deputy Deans for Academic Affairs Zoya Aksenova and Elena Voitsekhovskaya, and Deputy Dean for Discipline Daria Boytsova told first-year students about the most urgent issues that need to be addressed and the opportunities that are opening up for them in the near future.

The Chairman of the Student Council of the Faculty of Architecture, Anastasia Fedakova, drew attention to the vibrant student life both at the Faculty and at the university as a whole. The Head of the SPbGASU Integrated Security Division, Oleg Pospelov, emphasized that studying at a specialized university opens up many opportunities for future specialists, but for successful studies, it is necessary to follow the rules and obligations aimed primarily at safety. He spoke, among other things, about the procedure for action in emergency situations, preventive measures and the need to comply with the pass regime at the university, and the rules for living in a dormitory.

First-year student Nikita Kravchenko from Almaty (Kazakhstan) listened carefully to everything that was discussed at the meeting and is ready to make every effort to become a professional.

"I chose SPbGASU because it is famous for its strong traditions and high standard of training specialists in the construction and architectural fields since 1832. It has everything you need to get a quality education and become a professional. In addition, the university cooperates with many partners and offers an active student life, which opens up broad prospects for personal and career growth. The First-Year Student Day at SPbGASU was held at a high level and became a real holiday for all new students. I consider the key moments to be the grand opening, where representatives of the dean's office and the student council spoke with welcoming words, as well as the interesting activities that our favorite adaptors held for us," Nikita shared.

Margarita Tynyanova came from Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan). She admits that since school she was a creative person who was attracted to technical sciences.

"When I learned that my interests could be combined, I chose architecture, the cultural capital of Russia, and a university with a good architectural school. It was great to meet the Faculty administration. I am very glad that the university of my dreams welcomed us so warmly. Thanks to everyone who worked on this event, our adaptor Aleksandra. The day was a great success!" - said Margarita.

Parents of newborn students who came to see them off to the door also shared pleasant impressions of the First-Year Student Day and the university in general. Thus, the mother of a first-year student from Sevastopol noted the excellent work of the adaptors, as well as the students who worked in the admissions committee.

Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services: study with possible subsequent employment

Similar events took place at all faculties. The dean's office management tried to do everything possible to demonstrate the wide opportunities of the university to first-year students, to increase their motivation for studying and further career. Thus, at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, the head of the Department of legal support and control (supervision) in the sphere of self-regulatory organizations of the Rosreestr Administration for the Leningrad Region, Yulia Shaverina, spoke to students. She spoke about the relevance of professions in the field of land management and cadastre and emphasized the demand for specialists in this field.

“The Rosreestr Office for the Leningrad Region actively cooperates with educational institutions, including the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, in the context of training qualified specialists and is interested in their future employment,” Yulia Shaverina summed up.
