One of the most significant dates in Russian history is 18 January. On this day in 1943, an event occurred that became a turning point in the battle for Leningrad - the blockade of the city on the Neva was broken.

Leningrad remained besieged for another year, but the breaking of the blockade instilled confidence in the inevitable defeat of the enemy. Food and basic necessities began to be delivered to the city, thousands of lives were saved.

SPbGASU sacredly honors the memory of people who defended their hometown for future generations. Every year our university hosts events dedicated to their feat. Preserving memories of the siege is the duty of those living today.
