The date of 18 January has forever entered into our national history as an example of the incredible courage and fortitude of our people. On this day in 1943, the siege ring around Leningrad was broken.
As a result of fierce fighting, the land connection of the city on the Neva with the "mainland" was restored. The key historical moment turned the tide of the battle for Leningrad, improved the city's supply, and further strengthened the spirit of its defenders and residents.
It is our duty to remember the events of those years and to be worthy descendants of our heroic ancestors. They stood firm, won, gave us the happiness of living, working, raising children, and building our future.
