"Develop creative and promising ideas"
Current issues of design and operation of water supply and sanitation systems were discussed on December 1–3, 2021 at an interuniversity scientific and practical conference organized by the SPbGASU Department of Water Use and Environment.
The conference was attended by representatives of SPbGASU, Research Institute of Military Medicine of the Ministry of Defense, the Military Academy of Logistics, Novosibirsk University of Architecture and Civil Engineering and St. Petersburg Transport University.
“In the modern world, talented young people are distinguished by creative and promising ideas that need to be supported and developed. The most important goal of this conference is to involve students in solving acute issues of water supply and sanitation. Undoubtedly, the fusion of youth and experience will provide a leap in obtaining new knowledge,” said Inna Sukhanova, the Dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services.
The conference helped to identify new ideas and solutions, analyze domestic and foreign experience, and select priority areas for further development of energy- and environmentally friendly technologies.
Ekaterina Gontar
Ekaterina Gontar, a second-year student of the Master's program at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, presented a report on "Vacuum system of internal drainage from roofs." According to her, in Russia this system appeared not so long ago and is limited in application due to the lack of relevant regulatory documents and calculations.
“Speaking at the conference is an invaluable experience for me and a great opportunity to share interesting material with other students, to discover a lot of new things in the field. I advise current and future students not to miss the opportunity to participate in such events, because this is a guarantee of professional development and, of course, meeting interesting people from the field of future activity!” Ekaterina shared.
Ulyana Tyunina
Ulyana Tyunina, a first-year master's student at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, spoke about water treatment at the brewery. In the scientific article the author considered several combinations for water treatment, analyzed them and gave an assessment.
“The scientific conference is an exciting and very informative event. If there is an opportunity to participate in it, then this opportunity should not be missed. The conference provided me with the experience of speaking and preparing for it, as well as new knowledge from the reports presented at the conference,” said Ulyana.
Maria Trubina
Maria Trubina, a second-year graduate student of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, shared with the conference audience information about the study of free flow of fluid in a pipeline. Maria plans to continue developing this topic on a larger scale and in more detail as part of her final qualification work.
“Thanks to the conference, I understood in which direction further research should be carried out. This experience gave me confidence. In my opinion, extremely important is the very process of presenting your research, which can cause stress for many. Confidence is achieved only by regular participation in conferences, so I would advise students to take part in such events,” Maria said.
“Our conference is a good platform for testing the scientific results of young scientists. This time there were many interesting reports, which topics are relevant for the water supply and sanitation industry. The participation of students in a scientific discussion is an important stage in the preparation of the final qualification work and its further successful defense,” believes Svyatoslav Fedorov, Associate Professor of the Department of Water Use and Environment.
“Holding scientific conferences at the department allows us to involve scientists from other universities and practitioners into the discussion of acute issues, to take an objective look at the current situation in the field of water supply and sanitation and find the most correct and effective solutions. Students' participation in such events contributes to their professional development and the emergence of interesting, creative ideas in discussions,” said Anatoly Kudryavtsev, Head of the Department of Water Use and Environment.
