On February, 23 our country celebrates the Day of the Fatherland Defender. This is a holiday of those who defends the borders of our country, who makes a lot in favor of success and prosperity of our country.
Saint Petersburg state university of architecture and civil engineering significantly contributed to defense of the Fatherland. During the Great Patriotic War students, post-graduate students, employees and professors of the higher education institutions defended Leningrad, fought on fronts, and participated in evacuation.
In 1952-1958 in the higher educational institution there was a special navy faculty for education of military engineers, placed at navy fronts of the Soviet Union for construction and exploitation of naval bases. 750 people graduated from the special navy faculty and obtained ranks of lieutenant engineers. Among alumni of the faculty there were: vice-minister of defense of the USSR in engineering and troop housing, general-colonel N.V. Chekov (1931-1996), director of “Severvoenmorstroy”, major-general Yu.V. Chumachenko (1934-1992). By his name there was named a street in Zaozersk, Murmanskaya region, and opera singer E.E. Nesterenko (born in 1938), who was a troop leader at that time.
Congratulations dear defenders of the Fatherland! Good health, success in achieving the goals, happiness in personal life and peaceful skies to you!
