FIBROMIX – 2019: what is new in the world of composites
Most everything that surrounds us is made of composites. This broad class of materials has become an integral part of modern construction industry. The most well-known composite is concrete, familiar to everyone. However, the world of building composite materials is not limited solely to concrete.
The 2nd International Conference “Composite Materials and Structures in Modern Construction”, which opened on October 16, 2019 at SPbGASU, is intended to cover various aspects of the use of composite materials in construction industry, design of structures based on them, and studies of the properties of composites and the prospects for their use.
Conference participants are theoreticians and practitioners with extensive experience, interested in sharing knowledge and achievements.
Opening the conference, Vice-Rector for External Relations Irina Lugovskaya wished success to its participants on behalf of the SPbGASU Rector of Evgeny Rybnov: “A year ago, the First International Scientific and Practical Conference FIBROMIX-2018 was successfully held at SPbGASU. I hope that there will be third and fourth conferences, and that the list of topics will expand and deepen. I wish you successful work and good atmosphere. And as always, I invite our colleagues to SPbGASU with all my heart! ”

FIBROMIX - 2019 participants’ reports are devoted to such relevant topics as predicting the durability and operational reliability of building structures made of polymer composite materials (Alfred M. Sulejmanov, KGASU), the durability and operational reliability of core structures made of polymer composites under cyclic changes in the heat and humidity parameters of the operating environment (Sergey V. Fedosov, IVSPU), the use of 3D technology in the restoration of elements of architectural decor (Veniamin A. Norin, Svetlana G. Golovina, SPbGASU), etc.

Representatives of companies will talk about the possibilities of application and development prospects of steel fiber reinforced concrete (Pavel S. Maslov, Severstal Metiz), about paving stones with enhanced performance characteristics (Elena Ye. Maslova, CEMSYS), etc.
Why the conference is held at the university
It is no coincidence that SPbGASU is the organizer of this large-scale assembly. Researches and scientists of the SPbGASU Department of Technology of Construction Materials and Metrology are broadly known both in our country and abroad. Under the leadership of the head of the department, Yuri V. Pukharenko, a scientific school of “Nanostructural modification and dispersed reinforcement of building products and structures” works at the university; it is in the official register of foremost scientific schools in St. Petersburg. The scientists are looking for ways and means of efficient use of materials, closely work with manufacturers.
The developments of the SPbGASU scientific school participants have been implemented at such facilities as the Toyota plant in Shushary, an overpass through railways in the Obukhovo station area, overpasses of the second stage of the Ring Road and in housing construction.
“Our doors are open to anyone who wants to gain new knowledge and cooperate with us. We also learn from you. This conference is no exception. We will gain new knowledge, ideas, make new professional acquaintances,” said Yu. V. Pukharenko.
