Fifth All-Russian Interuniversity Scientific and Practical Conference "Graduate Hearings"

Igor Chernyayev

At the end of October, the 5th All-Russian Interuniversity Scientific and Practical Conference “Graduate Hearings” was held at the SPbGASU Automobile and Road Building Faculty. More than 100 graduates and university professors fr om different cities of the country took part in it: St. Petersburg, Krasnoyarsk, Rostov-on-Don, and Voronezh.

– “The main goal of the conference was to improve the quality of the implementation of Master’s degree programs. During the forum, which was held in an online format, undergraduates presented the results of their research and exchanged experiences. I think that from the fact that the conference participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with each other’s scientific developments, a kind of synergetic effect arose,” said the secretary of the conference organizing committee, Associate Professor, Igor Chernyayev, Candidate of Engineering, head of the SPbGASU Department of Transport Maintenance. “In addition, sections for teachers were organized at the conference, wh ere organizational, pedagogical, and methodological issues were discussed. In particular, a serious discussion revolved around the very concept of ‘graduate studies’. Although this stage of higher education has been developing for about five years, there is a constant search for an answer to the question ‘What is a Master’s degree program?’”

The reports of the conference covered the entire automobile and road building sphere: from the design of vehicles, their operation, organization of transportation, and road safety to the construction of infrastructure facilities. There were four sections: “Roads, bridges and tunnel,” “Road building and construction vehicles,” “Technical maintenance of vehicles,” and “Transport process technology.” The section chairpersons highly appreciated the level of the reports presented, which covered all the main issues of the automotive and road building industry. “Analyzing the reports of the conference, we can say that graduate students are engaged in solving urgent practical problems aimed at improving the quality of road transport,” the conference organizers noted.

Among the most interesting reports presented at the section of “Road building and construction vehicles,” experts attributed three presentations.

✔ In his report “Analysis of ways to improve the technical level of snow plows based on tractor chassis,” Master’s degree student Vladimir Gabidulin noted that it is necessary to improve the technical and economic level in the field of winter maintenance of city streets and country roads during heavy snowfalls. The author proposed to use a bulldozer on a tractor crawler chassis as a snow blower, noting that the machine would work according to the following principle: the bulldozer deepens the blade into the snow and moves forward, simultaneously raising the blade to form a drag prism in it. Thus, a scientifically substantiated option for increasing the technical level of a snowplow based on a caterpillar tractor was proposed along with constructive proposals for its implementation.

✔ Master’s degree student Anastasia Maksimova made a report on the topic of “Solving the problems of forming a system for monitoring the condition and positioning of construction and road vehicles.” The analysis was performed on the basis of data on the products of four companies: GLONASS-soft, MSS, ResourceControl and BARS-GLONASS. In the report, she presented the characteristics of the products of these companies by 18 parameters. The student found that the largest number of monitored parameters was implemented by the company “ResourceControl.”

✔ Master’s degree student Artyom Kuznetsov presented the report on “Forecasting the performance of road vehicles.” The report analyzes the stages of the life cycle of road vehicles, gives a plan for solving the task set and resumes that an opportunity opens up for building models of the operation of a road vehicle at facilities at all stages of the life cycle, as well as for predicting the performance of a road vehicle.

In the “Technology of transport processes” section graduates made more than 25 reports. Ksenia Borovikova, a Master’s degree from the SPbGASU Department of Transport Systems, presented an extensive study on the problems of improving the preparation of data for transport modeling. She formalized the properties and parameters of the road network for a unified representation of the transport proposal in transport models.

Denis Rassamakha and Timur Rautkin, graduates of the Russian University of Transport, presented their report on the “Prospects for the transportation of goods on high-speed routes.” The message was devoted to the organization of the transportation of urgent goods in high-speed passenger trains.

Master’s degree student of the Don State Technical University Alexander Miroshnichenko in his report on “Traffic management in cooperative ITSs” spoke about the mathematical model he created for the movement of unmanned vehicles. His work, in the opinion of the organizing committee, became the best of those presented at the section and was awarded the symbolic sign "Owl", printed on a 3D printer.

All reports will be published free of charge in the conference proceedings.
