German delegation at SPbGASU
On February 20 and 21, 2020, SPbGASU hosted a delegation from Germany. The delegation included Professor Werner Gerhard Paul Regen, Doctor of Economics, foreign member of RAASN, director of internal audit of Ilim Timber Industry LLC, president of the European Coaching Association (ESA) in Russia and the CIS, member of the scientific society named after Leibniz; Rolf Dieter Pfortner, President of the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Klaus Frieder Sieber, former head of the German Technical Academy; Hans Joachim Wunderlich, Executive Director of the Chemnitz Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and their party.In the course of the discussion
Foreign guests took part in a round table discussion on the topic of “Dual Education in Germany. Experience and perspectives. The role of the German chambers of commerce in the implementation of dual education.” The discussion took place at the KNAUF North-West training center. Vice-Rector for External Relations Irina Lugovskaya, deans of faculties, heads of university departments attended the event from the SPbGASU part. The parties discussed the mechanisms of vocational training in two countries and the prospects for interaction in this area.

One of the highlights of the visit of the German delegation was the assignment to Werner Gerhard Paul Regen of the title of Honorary Doctor of SPbGASU. The award ceremony took place on February 20 in the conference room of the Scientific Council where professor Regen was awarded with a diploma and mantel. On behalf of the Faculty of Economics and Management, which made the nomination, the Acting Dean Victoria Vinogradova outlined the grounds for granting the title to Professor Regen.

“Many of those present know Dr. Werner Regen as a highly skilled specialist, professional, and as an extraordinary person. Through his entire life, Dr. Regen keeps studying; he is engaged in self-education, education of other people, and he remains faithful to his professional trajectory, and practically through all his life he has been connected with Russia and, notably, with LISI – SPbGASU,” she said.

✔ In 2005, Werner Regen defended his doctoral dissertation at SPbGASU on the topic of “Formation of a competitive strategy of a foreign company in the Russian construction market based on self-organization”, and became Doctor of Economics. For many years he has been an active participant in the university’s scientific events; for six years he has been actively helping to organize summer educational practical training for SPbGASU students in Germany.
The professional and scientific activities of Dr. Regen are primarily connected with top management, the organization of enterprises, audit, procurement, and logistics. At various times, Werner Regen worked at the Carl Zeiss Jena Combine, at the international Knauf group in Bavaria, and then at the international timber industry group Ilim Timber in Germany and Russia. For 15 years, he was a member of the board of directors of St. Petersburg Cardboard and Printing Plant OJSC, the largest in Russia paper-pulp industry enterprise on wastepaper processing, one of the first ISO 9000-2001 and ISO 1400 certified companies.
Dr. Werner Regen is the author of more than 40 scientific articles published in international journals and nine monographs devoted to problems of investment, quality management and management methods for foreign investors in Russia, the development of self-organization and communication in all areas of the economy and education.
In 2007, he became the first German citizen elected as a foreign member of the Russian Academy of Architecture and Building Sciences, and in 2006 he was admitted to the full membership of the Petrovsky Academy of Sciences and Arts. In 2007, he became a member of the presidium of the National Federation of Professional Education Association. He organized numerous international competitions for young specialists in the field of dry construction. He contributed to the creation of the KNAUF North-West training center as part of SPbGASU.
✔ For his work as a representative of KNAUF in the North-West of Russia, Werner Regen was awarded the badges of “Honorary Builder of the Russian Federation” and “SPbGASU Civil Engineer”, and the medal of the President of Russia “In honor of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg”. As a member of the Board of Trustees of the League of Life Assistance to people with intellectual disabilities in St. Petersburg, he had contributed to this public organization for many years. Since 2010, Dr. Regen has been President of the European Coaching Association in Russia and the CIS, a member of its Presidium and Vice President. Since 2012, he has been the organizer of the ESA Planet of Coaching annual international conferences in St. Petersburg.
To the sounds of the student anthem Gaudeamus, W. Regen received the mantle and diploma of Honorary Doctor of SPbGASU. It is worth noting that Rolf Dieter Pfortner, Klaus Frieder Sieber and Hans-Joachim Wunderlich also are Honorary Doctors of one of the oldest engineering universities in Russia.
Visit of the delegation from Germany to SPbGASU
“I am very glad to be here today and to see many familiar faces, because my activity is closely connected with St. Petersburg and SPbGASU,” the new Honorary Doctor emphasized.
The program of the visit included two open lectures, which took place on February 21. Dieter Pfortner shared information on the prospects and lines of development of the automotive industry in Germany, and Hans-Joachim Wunderlich spoke about the tasks and structure of the Chambers of Commerce and Industry in Germany using the example of the Chemnitz CCI. SPbGASU students could expand their professional horizons having received a lot of relevant and useful information.
