Heroes of the Fatherland Day 

Heroes of the Fatherland Day is celebrated in Russia on 9 December. It is timed to coincide with an important historical event – the establishment in 1769 of the Order of Saint George the Victorious. This order was awarded to those who distinguished themselves in battles, showed the greatest military valour and bravery.

✔ Heroes of the Fatherland Day is especially significant for our country. It symbolises the continuity of traditions and our pride in compatriots loyal to their civic and military duty.

On this day people pay tribute to those who have earned high state awards. Their lives are a worthy example to follow, to bring up the younger generation in the spirit of selfless service to the nation. The names of these outstanding people known for their glorious feats of arms or great achievements in science, economy and culture will remain forever in the history of Russia.
