Higher Education Teacher’s Day has been established in Russia
Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation Valery Falkov has signed an order establishing a new professional holiday – Teacher's Day in Higher Education. Not coincidentally, the holiday appeared during the Year of Science and Technology and will be celebrated annually on 19 November – the birthday of Mikhail Lomonosov, founder of the first Russian university.
"Teaching is not just about imparting knowledge, but also about stimulating interest, awakening a desire for learning new things, educating to ask the right questions and find the answers. At all times, the task of the teacher has been to inspire and ignite curiosity, to guide correctly and help to achieve students’ ambitious goals. And today, the university teacher is also at the forefront of science, sharing best practices in research and development with students. To emphasize the value and relevance of teachers' work and their significant role in educating young people, we are establishing the new professional holiday," stated Valery Falkov.
"I congratulate the teachers of Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering on their professional holiday. Teaching in a higher education institution is not merely a profession, it’s a calling. You impart knowledge to students, encourage their interest in the unknown, and give them the tools to achieve high goals. Your pioneering approaches, creative energy, dedication and competence are a reliable foundation for our scientific and technical progress. On this remarkable day I sincerely wish you every success in your work, good health and wellbeing and further achievements for the benefit of Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering!” said SPbGASU Rector Evgeny Rybnov, addressing the university staff.
