Improving reliability of roads and traffic safety

The 4th All-Russian Scientific and Practical Conference "Innovations and Durability of Transport Infrastructure Facilities (Materials, Structures, Technologies)" was held at Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering on 18-19 November.

Aleksandr Ovchinnikov, Anna Marmur, Aleksandr Ostov

In addition to SPbGASU specialists, the event was attended by representatives of the ITMO University, Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University, Industrial University of Tyumen, Vologda State University, Kazan State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, as well as leading design and construction organizations of St. Petersburg.

The participants discussed topical issues concerning the design, construction, repair and maintenance of transport infrastructure and the introduction of innovative materials and structures.

✔ The presentations focused on research conducted in the fields of speed management, improving traffic safety, road design in permafrost areas, stabilisation of weak and unstable soils, airfield infrastructure development and innovative methods of transport and pedestrian tunnel construction.

Aleksandr Ovchinnikov, a fourth-year student of the Industrial University of Tyumen, made a presentation on improving the quality of street and road maintenance taking into account the city’s climatic conditions.

"The topic was not selected randomly: Tyumen is rapidly developing, and road maintenance is an important task for the city’s organizations. Participating in the conference, I learned a lot of interesting facts. I’d recommend every student to take part in such events as a speaker or an attendee," he noted.

Anna Marmur, a second-year Master’s student from the same university, has analyzed the maximum permissible load on the road pavement in winter. "I would like to thank SPbGASU for the opportunity to participate in the conference. It was very interesting and I have gained the knowledge that will be useful to me in the future. I plan to develop recommendations to increase the load on the pavement in winter for the efficient use of modern vehicles. These proposals will enable municipal infrastructure enterprises to use vehicles at full load in winter as well," told Anna.

Postgraduate student from Vologda State University Aleksandr Ostov made a report on improving the road service life. "I have never spoken at such events before. This conference gave me new experience, new knowledge. My plans include developing as a lecturer and working on my PhD dissertation," he said.
