SPbGASU hosted an international scientific and technical conference "Innovations in Wooden Construction".
Andrey Kirillov, member of the Partnership Council of the Association of Wooden Housing, President of the Russian West group of companies, the general partner of the event, spoke at the opening of the event. In his opinion, wooden houses are the best place to live, and wooden structures are the future of ecological housing construction.
Anton Gaido, Dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Civil Engineering, emphasized that the conference provides an opportunity for manufacturers, prominent scientists, and novice researchers to address the audience.
“Wood is a natural, renewable, traditional resource for Russia. In terms of environmental properties, wood takes the first place among building structures. Unlike concrete and metal, wood materials do not require much energy to produce. In the process of growth, the tree has a positive effect on the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions into the atmosphere. We have very large timber reserves in Russia - 25 percent of the world's. Now there are new glued materials that allow you to expand the possibilities of construction. Engineered wood raises wooden housing construction to a new level,” says Aleksandr Chernykh, President of the Wooden House Construction Association, Head of the SPbGASU Department of Metal and Timber Constructions.
The conference was held at SPbGASU for the twelfth time, becoming a meeting place for representatives of science and the industry. The conference was attended by representatives of Russia, the Republic of Belarus, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, the People's Republic of China. Many of them studied at SPbGASU. One of them is Xu Yun, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of Science and Technology at North China University of Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering, who completed his PhD studies at our university. The speaker talked about the study of the seismic properties of CLT-reinforced concrete frame structures. China is one of the countries with high seismic activity, so it is very important to assess the resistance of buildings and improve their seismic resistance. Xu Yun informed about the tests carried out aimed at identifying the patterns of destruction and the mechanisms of interaction between wooden and reinforced concrete structures.
Our university is one of the leaders in the field of scientific support of wooden housing construction. Here, scientific research is carried out by order of the Ministry of Construction of the Russian Federation and personnel are trained for production. SPbGASU has got a joint department with Rus corporation, where students are taught by practicing specialists.
