As part of the 76th Regional Scientific and Practical Conference of Students, Postgraduate Students and Young Scientists “Current Issues of Modern Construction”, that took place at SPbGASU on 17–20 October, the Department of Intercultural Communication held a section in English.
The section was opened by the head of the Department of Intercultural Communication Elena Selezneva, and the professor at the Department Elena Chirkova, who delivered welcoming speeches. They wished the participants productive work and new scientific discoveries.
The section was carried out in two subsections, which provided a platform for discussing a wide range of problems. The subsections were moderated by the students themselves: Dmitry Greben (third year student at the Faculty of Civil Engineering) and Sofia Myagkaya (second year student at the Faculty of Economics and Management).
During the first subsection, issues of modern directions and trends in construction, selection of innovative materials, urban landscaping, architectural lighting, as well as communication problems in the construction process were discussed in English. The topics of the second subsection were economic issues and the introduction of digital tools in the transport industry.
Along with the SPbGASU students, students and cadets of the St Petersburg State Maritime Technical University (SPbSMTU), St Petersburg State Forestry University (SPbFTU) and the Mikhailovsky Military Artillery Academy (MMAA) took part in the section.
According to Elena Selezneva, “the fruitful work of the section and lively discussions of exciting issues have become an indicator of the need and importance of holding such conferences that promote the exchange of experience, the development of professional and foreign language communicative competence, the acquisition of experience in public speaking in a foreign language, as well as the expansion of professional contacts. We sincerely thank all participants and hope that this conference became a driver for new research!”
- The students noted the value of the experience gained and the high level of organization of the conference.
“Such conferences stimulate people to further study a foreign language,” - Danila Tomin said (MMAA).
“For me, the conference became a very useful practice of spoken English and an opportunity to test my public speaking skills,” - Ivan Vasyuk shared (SPbSMTU).
“Many thanks to the organizers of the conference for the warm welcome, to the participants for the interesting reports and for the opportunity to visit a new university and establish connections with students of a related specialty!” – remarked Anna Rivman (SPbFTU).
“I liked the conference for its openness: programs were printed out for everyone; for leadership qualities of youth (students acted as moderators); and for meeting amazing people with completely different specializations and the topics of their reports,” – Ivan Beshentsev claimed (SPbGASU).
