On 17 October, the SPbGASU Department of Intercultural Communication held a section on "Professional Interaction in a Foreign Language" as part of the LXXVII Regional scientific and practical conference of students, graduate students, and young scientists "Current Issues of Modern Construction". Its motto this year was: "Research. Communication. Culture. Innovations".
The audience was greeted by the head of the Department of Intercultural Communication Elena Selezneva and the professor at the Department Elena Chirkova.
The section was attended by students from SPbGASU, St Petersburg State Marine Technical University (SPbSMTU) and St Petersburg State Forestry University (SPbFTU), who presented the results of their research in English. The section was moderated by Sofia Myagkaya, a third-year student of the SPbGASU Faculty of Economics and Management.
The section featured lively discussions of current issues in the construction industry: potential uses of aerogel, application of lasers, methods of technical supervision and methods of protecting the coast from wave impact. Transport issues were also touched upon: intelligent transport systems and the specifics of the Prague tram. The participants were greatly interested in the reports by Timofey Elagin (SPbGASU) on the problems and risks of introducing digital technologies in educational activities and Jamil Benchaban-Nezar (SPbFTU) on ways of motivating and rewarding company employees.
All participants noted the value and importance of holding such events, which provide an opportunity to communicate in a foreign language on scientific topics.
"Thank you for organizing this conference, in which we, students, in addition to the first steps in scientific activity, practice our skills of professional communication in a foreign language. I am sure that this useful experience will help us in our future activities and will give us the opportunity to find like-minded people," noted Timofey Elagin.
"The conference was excellent, many interesting reports were presented. Such events are a great way to practice a foreign language," says Mikhail Patryshev (SPbGASU).
We are thankful to all participants and look forward to new research results!
