The final of the Autumn Cup of the Student League of the International Engineering Championship "CASE-IN", held in Moscow, was successful for the SPbGASU team: the guys were recognized as the best in the special category "Breakthrough Solution" in the field of "Construction".
The team included Vadim Koptsov (fourth-year student, Faculty of Economics and Management), Arina Sanzhara (third-year student, Faculty of Civil Engineering), Glafira Bachmanova and Nikita Tikhonov (fourth-year students, Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services).
As part of the championship, the contestants developed a plan for the implementation of investment and construction projects in the field of tourism.
“Our team was tasked with identifying the need to create a tourism infrastructure facility in the selected region, analyzing its key technical and economic indicators and proposing possible options for implementing the project. The key idea of our solution is to preserve natural areas during the construction and operation of facilities, and to minimize the impact on the environment. We have developed glamping with the necessary infrastructure for comfortable living and recreation in Karelia all year round. The attractive appearance of the buildings was achieved by combining historical and modern architecture: in our opinion, the ethnic flavor of this region is in good harmony with modern modular structures,” said team captain Nikita Tikhonov.
Nikita added that he has participated in this championship for the fourth time, but he considers this particular project the most interesting, and victory in the nomination to be an incentive for further achievements.
“At the championship you gain experience working in a team, which is very valuable. When we took part for the first time, we found ourselves at the bottom of the standings. The next time we took second place in the qualifying round. This year we came to victory in the final. I plan to participate in the championship next spring and compete for first place,” Nikita shared.
His plans are approved by the team mentor, associate professor at the SPbGASU Department of Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation, PhD, Viktor Yakovlev. He recalls that once the SPbGASU team was among the top three winners in the overall standings.
“I welcome the desire of the guys to participate in this championship, because it develops analytical thinking, which is important in the development of design solutions, which are worked out, first of all, taking into account their economic feasibility. This year, as part of the championship assignment, it was necessary to work out issues related to the prospects for new solutions in a region attractive for tourism. We are talking about creating investment projects that will bring profit. In addition, the championship serves as an effective platform for industry representatives to scout out the most promising students as potential specialists, often offering lucrative employment opportunities to the winners right there. However, all championship participants have the opportunity to communicate with industry representatives, and contacts with them are an important thing in professional activity,” says Viktor Aleksandrovich.
Let us remind you that the International Engineering Championship “CASE-IN” is a system of competitions in solving engineering cases for schoolchildren, students and young professionals. The team of our university took part in it with the assistance of the SPbGASU Career guidance competence center "Trajectory".
