The results of the All-Russian TIM Championship of SPbGASU have been summed up. Its participants designed a tourist complex on the shore of Lake Baikal. The SPbGASU team was declared the winner. The team from the Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering took second place, and the third place went to the Samara State Technical University. Winners in individual categories have also been determined. They were honored at the closing ceremony of the TIM championship on 17 November.
As members of the SPbGASU team, Viktoria Potekhina (fourth year student at the Faculty of Architecture, architect), Diana Shagiakhmetova (fourth year student at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, designer), Daniil Sorokin (fourth year student at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, heating and ventilation), Evgeny Suvorov (fourth year student at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, water supply and sanitation), Vadim Koptsov (fourth year student at the Faculty of Economics and Management, estimator), Irina Baidina (fourth year student at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, TIM-coordinator), Egor Zverev (fourth year student at the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services, power supply) and Anastasia Babinova (master's student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, CM).
Denis Nizhegorodtsev, director of the SPbGASU Laboratory of Digital Information Models in Construction
At the championship in information modeling technologies, everything was close to real working conditions: the competition task was provided by the industry company BIMPRO, the teams included future architects, designers, heating and ventilation engineers, water supply and sanitation, electricity supply, construction management, estimators, system coordinators. Working hours: five days a week. Thus, the championship participants immersed themselves in the professional field in which they will work after graduating from universities, tested the level of their competencies and gained experience working in a team.
Working in the presence of representatives of industry companies is a good opportunity to express yourself, which is why the TIM Championship is becoming more and more popular every year.
Sergey Mikhailov, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs, SPbGASU
Speaking at the closing ceremony, SPbGASU Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Sergey Mikhailov recalled that the All-Russian TIM Championship of SPbGASU is being held as part of an innovative educational project to develop digital professional competencies of students in the construction industry. This year it was held for the tenth time and for the fifth time at the All-Russian level.
“Four years ago, the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education included the championship in the list of events which winners are eligible to receive grants. Every year new teams and partners join the TIM championship, and the event develops. Next year we plan to create a league of students of secondary specialized educational institutions and a school league, which will include students of TIM classes - a joint project of our university, St Petersburg schools and the Renga Software company. For many years now, SPbGASU has been successfully introducing and applying information modeling technologies in educational, research and design activities. We carry out all initiatives in collaboration with industry partners, and this increases their effectiveness, relevance, and significance,” noted the Vice-Rector.
Director of BIMPRO, the general partner of the TIM championship, Anna Nikolaeva, emphasized the relevance of this event, which allows its participants to demonstrate and expand their practical knowledge in information modeling technologies.
“Taking into account the shortage in the labor market and in view of legislative innovations, according to which the use of information modeling technologies becomes mandatory, many design and construction organizations will willingly accept specialists with such practice. The architects demonstrated a fairly high level of mastery of TIM technologies: all teams managed to complete the buildings, albeit with certain flaws. The only thing they lacked was creativity. Delving deeper into TIM, we must not forget that architecture is paramount, especially for objects designed in a specially protected area - Lake Baikal. This fact obliges us to create aesthetic architecture in conditions of extremely careful treatment of natural landscapes. The individual engineering and construction sections were also very strong. I will assume that some of the championship participants already have experience working in existing design organizations. They provided realistic solutions. I would say that the team from Vyatka State University was a pleasant opening of the championship. The university, far from the capitals, showed excellent preparation of students who completed a high-level project, showed interesting architecture, high quality technical solutions and demonstrations,” explained Anna Nikolaeva.
Projects defense
According to her, the project of the SPbGASU team is closest to reality; it noticeably uses the positive architectural experience of hotel complexes in St Petersburg. The architecture is quite balanced and solves the necessary problems, and the engineering networks are performed at a very high level. All this allowed the guys to get ahead of other teams.
“To complete a turnkey project in such a short time, you need good experience. There are several works that we liked. Perhaps other guys also have potential, which the short duration of the event did not allow them to fully implement. The partner teams of the TIM championship recognized talented students. If possible, we will invite the guys for an internship, and next year we will again take part in defending projects,” summed up Anna Nikolaeva.
Aleksandr Vikhrov, NOPRIZ coordinator for the Northwestern Federal District
The coordinator of the National Association of Designers and Surveyors (NOPRIZ) for the Northwestern Federal District - a long-term general partner of the TIM championship - Aleksandr Vikhrov confirmed that the participants professionally completed the projects and showed their competitiveness. “NOPRIZ in the Northwestern Federal District includes 46 self-regulatory organizations, they have from 50 to 1000 design organizations and bureaus that will be happy to accept talented guys into their teams. Modern technologies open up new opportunities, paths to successful professional activities, and young specialists, with the help of their digital professional competencies, will take our industry to a new level,” he noted.
Kirill Pivovarov, head of the ventilation and air conditioning department at Metropolis, also confirmed his readiness to cooperate with students. He noted the high level of projects, emphasizing that the TIM championship opens up new opportunities for its participants and shows what success can be achieved in the future.
Dean of the SPbGASU Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services Inna Sukhanova called the awarding of students the most pleasant moment, and the representative of the SPbGASU team Evgeny Suvorov came up with the following initiative: next year to bring all the projects of the championship participants to an open discussion to allow the students to see their mistakes and take advantage of the recommendations of experts in future.
This year, students were able to expand their knowledge at master classes from the partners of the TIM championship - the companies Brio MRS and Semren Monnson.
The general partners of the championship are NOPRIZ and the BIMPRO company. Partners: ASCON, Renga Software, Wizardsoft, Metropolis, Rosterm, Valtek, Vysotsky Consulting, BRIO MRS, Aibim and Semren Monnson.
The championship included teams from SPbGASU, Vyatka State University, Far Eastern State University of Transport (they took part in the championship for the first time), Ivanovo State Polytechnic University, Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Samara State Technical University, Tyumen Industrial University, Chuvash State University (also took part for the first time) and South Ural State University.
