From 14 to 21 June, Ekaterinburg hosted an industry championship of professional skills of the State Corporation Rosatom, which methodology is based on WorldSkills standards. This year, the championship featured competitions in 39 competencies.

The team of St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering took part in two of them: cost estimate and engineering design.

The leader of the team was Denis Nizhegorodtsev, Director of the Laboratory of Digital Building Information Models.

In the Cost Estimate competency, in which the participants competed individually, SPbGASU was represented by third-year student Vadim Koptsov. Anna Shamsutdinova, Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty of Economics and Management, acted as a compatriot expert. In this competence, our university competed with the budget departments of various divisions of Rosatom, as well as with representatives of the Moscow Industrial College. The skills of the participants in the development of estimates, summary estimates of the cost of construction, verification of estimate documentation and pricing were assessed.

In the Engineering Design competency, SPbGASU was represented by two teams. The core team of the university included: Olga Gritsenko, first-year master student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, responsible for the design of building structures; third-year student Irina Baidina responsible for information modeling; third-year student of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services Daniil Lukanin responsible for cold supply; first-year master student of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services Konstantin Timukov responsible for electrical equipment and lighting; compatriot experts Associate Professor at the Department of Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation Kirill Sukhanov and Assistant at the Department of Computer Science Nikita Gorovoy.

In addition, the combined team of SPbGASU and the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI participated in the competition, which included third-year students of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services Daniil Sorokin and Anastasia Bogomolova, who performed the roles of engineers for cold supply and electrical equipment, respectively. Senior Lecturer at the Department of Heat and Gas Supply and Ventilation Mikhail Fedorov acted as a compatriot expert. The rest of the team members were representatives of NRNU MEPhI.

According to the results, the core SPbGASU team took third place in the student standings.

“Participation in industry competitions is certainly a useful experience for students. The tasks that students perform at such championships are always associated with the tasks solved in real production. The limited execution time immerses the participants in a state of maximum concentration, in which the acquired skills and abilities are best consolidated. Our university always takes part in such events with great pleasure,” said Denis Nizhegorodtsev.

“The Engineering Design competency is one of the best ways to test your knowledge and skills, as well as your mindfulness and self-control, in a short time. The championship helped me see my weaknesses and confirm my strengths. We will work on the bugs. The next championship will show how we coped with this. The most important thing is to never stop, go forward, and then success will not keep you waiting,” Olga Gritsenko noted.
