Master’s degree student Anna Yegorova: “Be who dares!”

Anna Yegorova on the day of graduation of the Bachelor’s degree program at SPbGASU

Anna Yegorova, second-year undergraduate of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services (speciality "Technosphere Safety"), became the winner of the International Competition of research works in the field of engineering, physics and mathematics. On April 20, for her scientific article written in collaboration with senior lecturer at the SPbGASU Department of Technosphere Safety, second-year graduate student, Tatyana Goncharuk, Anna was awarded a diploma of the III degree.

The contest was conducted remotely by the Professional Science Scientific Public Organization as part of the Interclover-2020 project. The motto of a large-scale international project is “Be the best. Be the first”. Monthly competitions of scientific articles for young scientists have been held since September 2016. Work evaluating criteria are the originality of the text, the relevance, the novelty, the completeness of the used scientific sources on the topic of work, the degree to which the topic has been developed, its theoretical and practical value.

Based on the existing regulatory framework for hazard identification and the current international standards, A. Yegorova and T. Goncharuk proposed a phased hazard identification procedure. It helps to identify the dangers at each stage of the work under various operating modes, compare them, and come up with appropriate measures for each of them. The authors believe that hazard identification is an essential factor in an integrated approach to the creation and improvement of the labor protection system.

We asked Anna Yegorova to share her impressions of the contest.

“The purpose of my participation was to test the research for the future graduate qualification work,” Anna said. “In it, I conduct a risk assessment at the workplace of an electric welder, determine the most traumatic situations. Identification is carried out in stages, exactly as described in the article. At each stage, I use different methods: visually at the workplace, by sociological methods, by analyzing a range of documentation, etc.

I didn’t need to specially prepare for the competition: I sent a scientific article written earlier with Tatyana Goncharuk. Therefore, I believe that this is our common victory. The competition gave me a professional assessment; now I feel more confident in my final qualification work. In a month, the defense and graduation are to take place. However, it is, quite possible that I will continue to participate in such events even after I graduate. For students who will participate in contests, I want to say: cultivate your abilities. Do not be afraid to come out. Take part in everything that you consider interesting,” she notes.
