On 28 March, an exhibition of architectural graphics opened in the exhibition hall of the SPbGASU Faculty of Architecture. About 40 students presented works made in various techniques as part of studying a new course on architectural graphics. The course program was developed by the Department of History and Theory of Architecture.

Ekaterina Vozniak, dean of the Faculty of Architecture, emphasized the desire of teachers to receive feedback from students. “This is necessary in order to improve a new subject,” explained Ekaterina Rurikovna.

Tatiana Zhukova, head of the Department of History and Theory of Architecture, also encouraged students to express their comments. Tatiana Fedorovna said that when drawing up the program, they selected the most important things, that an architect needs to formalize his creative ideas.

Igor Khramov, senior lecturer at the Department of History and Theory of Architecture, called the new course a starting point, a basis for students’ further work. “In the future they will have to work on a computer. But we are for the architect to think with his hands,” said Igor Vladimirovich.

Architectural graphics are studied in the second year, but the exhibition includes works by first-year students. Thus, Evgenia Fedorova depicted the facade of the St Petersburg Academy of Arts. The student performed the work for about two months using the washing technique. This method involves repeated application of an aqueous paint solution for tonal modeling of architectural forms. The author sought to reveal the layout of the facade, to show what is closer, what is further, what forms protrude, what shadows emphasize them. On top of the layers of ink, Evgenia applied a colored layer of watercolor, achieving a noble, eye-friendly shade, close to the real color of the building’s facade.

At the opening of the exhibition, awards were presented to distinguished students. Diplomas were received by the laureates of the XXII International Festival “Days of Architecture”, which was held from 28 February to 2 March in Krasnodar as part of the YugBuild architectural and construction exhibition. Students of our university received 16 first degree diplomas, 14 second degree diplomas, 7 third degree diplomas, 5 competition participant diplomas. Aleksandra Vasilyeva’s project “Public Complex. Museum of Japanese Art" (supervisors: Yan Korzhempo, Elena Kutalia) was awarded two awards at once - a first degree diploma and a bronze diploma in the category “student work, category “starters””. The author of the project proposed placing a public complex behind the Russian National Library near the Park Pobedy metro station. The roof of the pavilion is made in the shape of a crane using the origami technique - in Japanese culture, the red crane is a symbol of good luck, longevity and peace.

The creators of the“Dragon” design installation located in the hall of the Faculty of Architecture received certificates and valuable gifts. Konstantin Kolodin, associate professor at the Department of Architectural Environmental Design, every year gathers a team of like-minded people to bring bold ideas to life. Receiving the award, Konstantin Ivanovich cited the statement of the Italian Renaissance architect Leon Battista Alberti that architecture should be sculptural, and sculpture should be architectural.

The exhibition of student works “Architectural Graphics” will be open until 18 April.

We wish students and teachers of the Faculty of Architecture creative success!
