TIM championship is underway

SPbGASU has become a career guidance platform for the formation of TIM competencies for students of architectural, construction and engineering profiles: the university hosts the All-Russian TIM Championship. This year ten teams are participating, two of them remotely.

Information modeling technologies (TIM) allow you to design (model) objects in a three-dimensional environment with the parameters of all elements. They reduce the time it takes for designers to work, minimize errors, and make it possible to calculate the preliminary cost of an object with high accuracy. As part of the TIM championship, teams create an information model of an object according to the technical specifications of an industry company.

“Practice shows that the championship helps to identify and support promising students of higher education institutions, and to involve employers, design organizations and companies working in the field of information technology in the process of forming and mastering TIM competencies. In this way we popularize engineering and technical education. This year, many teams based their work on domestic software for information modeling,” said Denis Nizhegorodtsev, director of the SPbGASU Laboratory of Digital Building Information Models.

He clarified that the teams are developing projects for a hotel complex - glamping - on the shores of Lake Baikal. The technical specifications were provided by the general partner of the championship - the BIMPRO company.

The teams are represented by the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, Nizhny Novgorod State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering, National Research University "South Ural State University", Samara State Technical University, Tyumen Industrial University, Far Eastern State University of Transport, Vyatka State University, Chuvash State University, Ivanovo State Polytechnic University and National Research University "Moscow State University of Civil Engineering".

Elizaveta Bortnik, a second-year master’s student at the Department of Reinforced Concrete Constructions at Samara State Technical University, is confident that the championship promotes professional growth. “I am taking part to improve my practical knowledge and practice working together in TIM with representatives of related departments. In addition, it is interesting and useful to communicate with students from other universities,” she said.

Her teammate, a second-year student at the department of water supply and sanitation of the same university, Aleksandr Zontov, agrees that the championship allows you to expand your knowledge, test your competencies and gain tremendous experience. As part of the team, he designs engineering water supply systems, including heating units, wells and treatment facilities. “I have experience in designing individual systems, but I want to test my professional capabilities at such a high-level career guidance platform,” noted Aleksandr.

The prospects offered by participation in the championship were also appreciated by Vasily Bibikov, a fourth-year student at the SPbGASU Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services in the field of Electric Power Engineering and Electrical Engineering. He doesn’t feel particularly nervous about the fact that he’s participating in a team from another university and is seeing his colleagues for the first time. “Everything will be fine, we’ll work together!” – Vasily smiles.

Anastasia Babinova, a first-year master's student at the SPbGASU Faculty of Civil Engineering, is taking part in the championship for the first time, but is confident that her team has all the competencies and capabilities to receive a prize. “As part of the team, I design the master plan of the facility and the 4D model of the final construction project. New experiences are always interesting to me. The championship helps you prove yourself in a professional environment, and these are new opportunities that should not be missed,” Anastasia is convinced.

The general partners of the championship are BIMPRO and the National Association of Designers and Surveyors  (NOPRIZ). Partners: ASCON, Renga Software, Wizardsoft, Metropolis, ROSTerm, Valtec, Vysotskiy consulting, BRIO MRS, Aibim, Semrén & Månsson.
