Stanislav Sergeevich’s grandfather and Svetlana Gennadievna’s father, Gennady Nikolaevich Shorshnev, was the rector of LISI from 1985 to 1990.

Gennady Nikolaevich graduated from LISI in 1959 and worked at the university since 1961. He took part in the activities of State Commissions for examining the technical condition of buildings and structures in St Petersburg and the Leningrad Region. He became the founder of a scientific direction in the field of research into structures and calculations of special reinforced concrete structures with a high content of design reinforcement of small diameters in sections. Since 1970, at the LISI Department of Reinforced Concrete and Masonry Constructions, together with the Leningrad Research Institute of Experimental Design, under his leadership, the study of reinforced concrete high-pressure vessels for nuclear reactors began. As a result, heavy reinforced cement was developed - a new type of reinforced concrete for pressure vessels. Many domestic scientists have attended Shorshnev’s scientific school.

Gennady Nikolaevich Shorshnev was one of the leaders of the SPbGASU scientific school "Construction", which was among the winners of the competition of scientific, pedagogical and research schools of St Petersburg in 2006.
