On 21-22 February, the St Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering hosted the II International Scientific and Practical Conference "Petersburg School of Flow Organization of Construction", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Professor Viktor Alekseevich Afanasyev. The conference was co-organized by the National Association of Designers and Surveyors (NOPRIZ).

“Any university is a personnel pool, formed thanks to scientists and lecturers. One of the leading figures here was Viktor Alekseevich Afanasyev, whose students work in Russia and abroad,” said Evgeny Korolev, SPbGASU Vice-Rector for Research, at the opening of the conference.

“Today, the construction is the locomotive of many industries and one of the backbone areas in the Russian economy. Its development directly depends on the creation of new and improvement of existing technologies for work. It is especially good to understand that the scientific community keeps the memory of such outstanding scientists as Viktor Alekseevich. Even more gratifying is the fact that numerous students continue his work, including those outside these walls, ”said Aleksandr Vikhrov, acting coordinator of NOPRIZ for the North-Western Federal District.

✔ The conference has become a platform for exchange of experience and scientific and technological achievements. It was attended by more than 70 university professors from Russia and abroad, managers and leading engineers of construction and design organizations, graduate students, undergraduates, as well as more than 100 students of our university. This large-scale event was held in person, but some of the participants, including those from neighboring countries, reported online.

The participants of the conference discussed the flow control of production at the construction site; features of scheduling the construction of facilities in the integrated development of the territory; experience in improving the professional training of specialists in the organization of construction and other topical issues.

Viktor Alekseevich Afanasyev (1923–2002) was the DSc in Engineering, Professor, Head of the SPbGASU Department of Construction Management from 1977 to 1998. He founded the Leningrad (Petersburg) School of Flow Organization of Construction, developed the theory of flow organization of construction.

The flow organization of construction divides the entire construction complex of works into separate technological processes. Specialized construction teams consistently perform work on different parts of the facility (floor, tier, block section). At the same time, the performance of various types of work on different parts of the facility is combined. This allows you to work continuously and reduces the duration of construction.

Viktor Afanasyev was engaged in the scientific organization of labour and production, for the first time he applied the matrix form for determining the duration of the construction of objects. Within the framework of the Petersburg School of Flow Organization of Construction, various methods have been developed for optimizing the in-line organization of work, as well as methods for the formation and calculation of complex flows.

At the Department of Construction Management, students and PhD students develop the theory and practice of the flow organization of construction, reconstruction and overhaul of facilities and complexes.

The First International Scientific and Practical Conference dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the birth of Professor Viktor Alekseevich Afanasyev was held at SPbGASU in February 2014. In February 2018, the university hosted an all-Russian conference dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the outstanding scientist.

Until 31 March, an exhibition of works by V. A. Afanasyev and his followers is open in the SPbGASU scientific and technical library.
