Postgraduate Student's Day
Nikita Orlov
On 21 January, Russia celebrates Postgraduate Student's Day. The celebration of this day is connected with the appearance in 1925 of the documents of the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR regulating the system of training scientists: "Regulations on scientific workers of universities" and "Instructions on the procedure for training scientists at research institutes and universities in applied, exact and natural sciences". These two documents laid the foundations of the state system for the training of scientific personnel.
Postgraduate studies are the first step towards becoming a scientist: graduate school lays the foundation of scientific knowledge, the specifics of thinking and the nature of scientific activity are formed.
SPbGASU postgraduate programs are in great demand among applicants. Highly qualified scientific and pedagogical workers, a rich material and technical base, current areas of scientific research of the university, ample opportunities for approbation and publication of scientific results, as well as for defending dissertations are the basis for successful training of scientific and scientific and pedagogical personnel.
Postgraduate students are trained in 15 scientific specialties. Research is carried out in such priority scientific areas as architecture and urban planning, restoration and preservation of architectural heritage, construction and housing and communal services, digital transformation of construction and housing and communal services, new materials, structures and additive technologies, automobile and road complex and intelligent transport systems.
A special place in the scientific activities of graduate students is occupied by research aimed at the development of the Russian Arctic. For example, the topic of the dissertation of postgraduate student Nikita Orlov is the development of mechanisms for investing in the construction of housing and communal services in the Arctic zone. The graduate student is sure: the socio-economic development of the Far North is one of the key areas for our state.
“At the moment, most of the housing and communal services facilities in the Arctic need major repairs. It is also necessary to build new facilities. This area requires the attraction of large private investments, which will create a large number of new jobs, improve the standard of living of the population and reduce its outflow. Under the guidance of my supervisor, Professor at the Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure Aleksey Osipovich Berezin, I study scientific works on this issue, prepare articles, conduct scientific research to improve the mechanisms of public-private partnership and concession,” said Nikita Orlov.
The results of the scientific work of our graduate students are annually recognized and supported both at the regional and federal levels, as evidenced by their victories in grant competitions, research works, awards from the Government of St Petersburg in the field of research activities, etc.
In addition to educational and research activities, graduate students take an active part in the public life of the university. For example, Ekaterina Kholuyanova headed the working group for the preparation of a mobile application for students of SPbGASU.
In addition, among the SPbGASU postgraduate graduates are the heads of structural divisions of their native university, specialists from large organizations in the real sector of the economy, employees of executive authorities.
