Postgraduate Student's Day
Since 2008, Postgraduate Student Day has been celebrated in our country on January 21. The holiday was established in honor of the publication of the “Regulations on Researchers in Universities”, signed in 1925 by the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR , which regulated the system of training scientists.
Postgraduate studies are the first step on the difficult but interesting path of a scientist. In graduate school, the foundation of a career is laid, the specificity of scientific thinking is formed. The holiday is designed to inspire young representatives of the scientific community, to draw attention to their activities.

Postgraduate students of the Saint-Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering contribute to the development of science, conduct research in relevant areas that are in demand by society.
Thus, Andrey Boyarintsev, a postgraduate student of the Department of Geotechnics, invented a new method for determining the soil adfreezing strength. Evgeny Polyntsev, a postgraduate student of the Department of Roads, Bridges and Tunnels deals with the issues of strengthening subgrade soils.
In the fall of 2021, during a scientific trip to Finland, Yana Olshak, a postgraduate student of the Department of History and Theory of Architecture, collected material for her dissertation on the Russian-Finnish architect Ivan Nikolaevich Kudryavtsev. According to the researcher, the biography and work of I. N. Kudryavtsev remained unexplored, and this is a great loss for the history of Russian architecture. Through a deep architectural analysis, the researcher revealed the features of the creative method of the Russian architect in a foreign cultural environment. The obtained data made it possible in general to trace an architectural heritage object lifetime from the author's sketch to implementation under the influence of various factors.
“Recently, more and more attention has been paid to the topic of the architectural heritage of the Russian diaspora. Gaps in the history of architecture are gradually being filled, which contributes to the preservation of the historical and architectural heritage of our country,” said Yana Olshak.
We wish postgraduate students success in achieving their goals, interesting topics and new discoveries!
