In SPSUACE a week practice of students of the High technical school of Oldenburg (Germany) finished on 9th December, 2016. A week is certainly not enough to study thoroughly the university life and to get acquainted with a cultural heritage of Northern Venice, however, thanks to the rich and fascinating program prepared by teachers of the Chair of History and Theory of Architecture, the foreign students received not only invaluable experience of "manual" technical drawing, creating pencil sketches and drawings "by hand" without the application of computer technologies, but also visited the most beautiful places of St.-Petersburg and its suburbs.
«I like everything here, - the student from Oldenburg Laynes shared his impressions. - It is amazing, how much and hard your students work. And the first year they draw and draw only by hand, with a pencil. It is just incredible. We were stunned, having seen their drawings and sketches. We don’t have this. We start to work on computers at once … And your creative workshops - they are unique. I do not know, whether there is something similar at other universities».
The German students, together with the Russian companions on training, visited master classes on the Chair of Drawing and worked over the projects united by one theme - working out a land pavilion of metro station "Theatrical". The students were divided into five mixed, international groups, and each group worked on the development of the concept of new underground station which was shown subsequently to the benevolent jury consisting of co- students and teachers of the chair Belousova Olga Alekseevna and Aksenova Zoya Leonidovna. All works received enthusiastic estimations of spectators and applauses.
«We are very pleased with their work, - Olga Alekseevna underlined. - Considering that they have not done the manual drawing so far, their successes became pleasant and unexpected for us. They worked perfectly. It is seems that they wish to learn to work by hands, that it is necessary for them. They are ready and want to draw. But they do not have such possibility: such subjects in the curriculum of their institute simply do not exist».
Employees of the chair gave a great attention also to the cultural program focused not only on picturesqueness and magnificence of our city, but also on its architectural grace and style. The students visited usual tourist sights, and also New Holland, Petrovsky Water area where with professional interest they studied schemes, drawings and city maquettes - reconstruction of its architectural ensembles and landscape.
It is necessary to notice that the German students were lucky with the weather, they felt themselves all delights and whims of the Petersburg climate: having had time to get wet in the rain and get stuck in a dirt and a mash of snow, the next day they could admire the snow sparkling under a shining sun in the park ensemble of Tsarskoe Selo. «The German winter will never seem to me beautiful any more», - one of the students, bewitched by really Pushkin’s « charming afternoon»- admitted to Olga Alekseevna.
SPSUACE and the High technical school of Oldenburg have old good fellowship. Annually the universities exchange students, giving them a chance to join other architectural methods and practices, which, undoubtedly, is useful and interesting to future architects.
