On 28–30 November, the federal territory of Sirius in Sochi hosted the III Congress of Young Scientists. SPbGASU was represented there by Timur Ablyazov, associate professor at the Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure, curator of the university’s student scientific society, and the deputy chairman of the SPbGASU student scientific society, second-year bachelor's student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Polina Martynova.

The Congress of Young Scientists is the largest platform for dialogue between advanced and fundamental science, government authorities and the real sector of the economy, setting the main vectors of scientific and technological development in Russia. This key event of the Decade of Science and Technology brought together more than 5,000 participants, and has become a platform for discussing the most important areas of scientific and technological progress in Russia. The business program of the congress included 157 events.

Loud, large-scale, grandiose - these are the words Polina Martynova describes the congress, comparing it to a science-fiction film: “Something is flying, seething, sailing, someone is wearing VR glasses, robots are everywhere - running underfoot, drawing pictures, giving lecture about quantum computers. And most important is the understanding that right here, right now, right next to you, are the greatest minds of the generation.”

Polina considers networking to be one of the advantages of the event. The communication process is reminiscent of playing in a big sandbox - you can approach anyone and say: “Hi, I’m Polina, let’s be friends? And what are you doing? Let's do it together.»

The congress discussed ideas related to the creation of a student scientific society and a council of young scientists of the Northwestern Federal District.

There were interesting lectures - about opportunities for young scientists, about new approaches in construction, about programs and principles for popularizing science. As part of the section “Great challenges as the opportunities for development”, a seminar “New building materials and technologies: the role of scientific institutions in technological leadership” was organized. The seminar discussed the main directions of development of construction engineering, the use of composite and synthetic materials and ways to introduce artificial intelligence technologies.

Among the most interesting topics and directions for the development of a new generation of builders, Polina highlighted the search for the use and improvement of polymer and synthetic materials; rethinking the role of wooden structures and their use as composite elements; new resin-based adhesives; new approaches to geotechnical surveys using drones, which will be used not only for observation, but also for collecting many statistically important parameters; the use of artificial intelligence in improving TIM (when drawing up estimates, describing defects during inspection and promptly and more accurately selecting recommendations to ensure the safe operation of buildings and structures).

After the congress, the student feels a desire to act, as well as confidence - she is not alone in this desire.
