The "Saint Petersburg" TV channel showed a story in the program “We Explain. SPb" about the changes that came into force on 1 September for motorists, according to which, in particular, the use of summer tires in the winter months is prohibited. Igor Graevsky, senior lecturer at the SPbGASU Department of Transport Maintenance, spoke about how these changes make the road situation safer.

According to the teacher, the coefficient of tire adhesion to the road affects not only how quickly a car can move off on a slippery surface, but also how effectively it brakes, how strongly lateral forces act on the car, and the ability to maintain control. You need to change tires when the temperature on the thermometer approaches plus five degrees. When choosing, the most important thing is to understand how much a medium-sized wheel costs. Too low a price indicates that, most likely, the rubber was manufactured without strict adherence to the necessary technologies.

Igor Graevsky shared tips on how to get a car ready for the winter season: you need to charge the battery, check the density of the coolant, replace the air filter and oil. It makes sense to put a shovel and a tow rope in the trunk just in case, and if you plan to use the car in difficult conditions, also anti-skid devices.
