Associate Professor at the SPbGASU Department of Land Transport and Technological Machines Nikolay Podoprigora took part in a press conference dedicated to the results of the pilot project and the beginning of reform of the transport system in the Leningrad region.
The press conference took place on 17 January at the TASS regional information center in St Petersburg.
Transport reform in the Leningrad region starts on 1 February. As Mikhail Prisyazhnyuk, chairman of the regional Transport Committee, said, it will affect related interregional and intermunicipal areas. 450 new buses will be available on 90 routes with regulated tariffs.
Member of the board of the National Transport Association, director of transportation organization Roman Yurenev said that new rolling stock will begin to appear on the route network this year. According to the speaker, this will be a huge plus for residents of the Leningrad region.
Nikolay Podoprigora shared information about the role of scientists in the implementation of transport reform. Experts in the field of automotive research are most concerned about the issue of safety, so they actively participate in the work of commissions, assess the condition of rolling stock, and get acquainted with the proposals that come to the market. Work is currently underway to analyze data collected through 2023 to assess the effectiveness of the current transport model.
During the press conference, Mikhail Prisyazhnyuk expressed gratitude to SPbGASU for assistance in restoring the library collection of the Donbass city of Yenakievo, in which the university participated together with the department, and emphasized the urgent need for further cooperation with the university. Thus, according to Mikhail Sergeevich, the region is actively negotiating with the Chinese company Yutong on the purchase of new buses, and in a short time it is necessary to assess the quality of these vehicles.
