On 11 September, the SRO Association "Baltic Association of Designers" held a ceremony to present anniversary medals "50 years of the Baikal-Amur Mainline". Among those awarded were SPbGASU teachers and graduates.
The awards were presented by Sergey Filippov, a representative of the All-Russian public organization "BAMovskoye Sodruzhestvo", on behalf of its president Efim Basin. The following were awarded anniversary medals: Aleksandr Vikhrov, a member of the council, coordinator for the Northwestern Federal District of the National Association of Surveyors and Designers (NOPRIZ), a graduate of SPbGASU; Yury Panibratov, a visiting professor at the SPbGASU Department of Construction Economics and Housing and Utility Infrastructure; Rashid Mangushev, director of the Scientific and Production Consulting Center for Geotechnology, professor at the SPbGASU Department of Geotechnics; Anatoly Osokin, director of the Soil Testing Center, head of the SPbGASU Department of Geotechnics; Lidiya Kondratieva, professor at the SPbGASU Department of Geotechnics; and Filipp Kalach, leading engineer, assistant at the SPbGASU Department of Geotechnics.
According to Aleksandr Vikhrov, the construction of the BAM became a bright page in the lives of its participants.
Rashid Mangushev, who stood at the origins of the student construction squad movement on the BAM, shared his memories. According to him, four LISI student construction squads went to Severobaikalsk in 1974: “We had to get there by plane to Ulan-Ude, then by a small plane to Verkhniy Uoyan, and then by a broken bus along a dusty road to Severobaikalsk, which was a settlement of trailers and beams - northern temporary buildings. Since we were then responsible for the western part of the BAM, we were tasked with starting construction of the first two five-story buildings in Severobaikalsk. In the following years, right up until 1988, LISI student construction squads took part in the construction of not only civil facilities, but also in the construction of the western portal part of the Severomuysky tunnel.”
Rashid Abdullovich emphasized how grandiose the plans for the development of the transport artery are. Their implementation require the knowledge and experience of veterans of the BAM construction, energy and new technological solutions that today's graduates and students have.
“The acquisition of blue-collar jobs as part of the industrial and introductory practice can be called a priority for subsequent successful participation in the third work semester as part of student construction squads, including at BAM construction sites,” noted Professor Mangushev.
