Vice Rector Irina Lugovskaia greets the participants
SPbGASU Vice Rector for External Relations Irina Lugovskaia, DSc, the Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Municipal Services Inna Sukhanova, PhD, and the Faculty Deputy Dean, associate professor of the Department of Water Use and Ecology Yuri Stolbikhin, PhD, addressed the event participants with a welcoming speech.
“Any competition is an additional burden. But the efforts you put into it now will pay off three, five, ten times in the future. All graduates who participated in the BIM championships had a lot of job offers and got hired fast,” emphasized Yuri Stolbikhin.
“This is a qualifying intra-university championship, and its winners will take part in the All-Russian BIM Championship in the autumn of 2021. Besides, the winners will receive awards and prizes from the event partners – AMCAD, GRAPHISOFT, Wizardsoft, Glavstroy St. Petersburg LLC. The championship allows you to gain the experience as close as possible to solving real design tasks. The demand for such specialists is very high, and companies are happy to invite graduates and students for internships,” said Denis Nizhegorodtsev, head of the BIM Lab.
54 students, split into six teams, are taking part in the championship. All week long they will compete in designing a consumer services centre including tailor shops, repair shops, beauty salons, etc. The area of 2,912 square meters is to accommodate the utility systems, a parking lot, emergency routes and passageways for fire fighting vehicles, landscaping elements and the building itself. We asked the students why they decided to participate in the championship.
“For me, this is a challenge to myself: learning new things, completing a task under a tight deadline is really cool. The essence of the BIM championship is in self-education, first of all,” believes Anna Baranova, a fifth-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.

“It is interesting for me to try working in a team together with other students. This is a great experience of interaction with guys from other faculties in a real design case when you have to think of something you have not thought about before: where the pipes will be laid, and how everything will be installed,” shared her impressions Elina Zubaidullina, a first-year Master's student of the Faculty of Architecture.
“I am engaged in developing the project schedule. It is exciting to try my hand at this, and apply knowledge in practice,” told Anastasia Disko, a first-year Master’s student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering.
✔ The championship will continue on April 24. Awards ceremony for the winners will take place on Tuesday, April 27, in the assembly hall of the SPbGASU Academic Council.
