Students’ comments about the championship
Anastasia Kupriyanova, a third-year student of the Faculty of Architecture, told about her participation in the BIM championship: “As part of the DreamBIM team, I developed the concept of a building along with architectural and planning solutions, worked on creating an architectural model taking into account the requirements of other sections. Our task was to design a centre of consumer services for the population. We had a strict technical specification in terms of the number and area of premises, as well as a constructive component. Educational projects are still more flexible in this regard, so such a strict framework was unusual, but did not cause any particular difficulties. The main challenges were rather of a technical and programming nature – how to set the coordinates correctly, how to link the models to each other. I would like to continue developing in this area, it really gives a tremendous experience in designing. Therefore, most likely, when looking for an internship and a future employment, I will consider positions related, among other things, to Building Information Modelling.”
Olga Gritsenko, a third-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, was a design engineer in the SPBIM team: “I am interested in the BIM topics. More and more companies are implementing this technology in their work. That is why, right now, during my last years of study, I consider it necessary to gain the necessary experience, and the championship is an excellent opportunity for this. It allows you to learn the profession from the inside, acquire experience in designing and work with specialists from other sections in the same team. I was engaged in the development of a facility’s supporting structures. I cannot say it was easy, some kinds of work were done the first time, but in general, there were no big difficulties. Now I continue to develop in BIM, I am already starting to work on real projects. "
The fifth-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering Anna Baranova was responsible for engineering design as a member of the Wallki team: “I would like to recommend to all students, regardless of their year of study, to participate in the championship. For junior students, it gives an invaluable stock of knowledge and understanding of the profession, while for senior undergraduates it is a chance of rethinking the design and calculation process, skills testing, learning new programs. I think, now I have a more solid resume and portfolio!"
The BIM qualifying championship was held within the framework of the BIM-ICE project, funded by the South-East Finland – Russia CBC 2014-2020 Programme.
