Russia Day is one of the main public holidays of the Russian Federation. It is celebrated on 12 June. It was on this day in 1990 that the countdown of the new history of our country began: the first Congress of People's Deputies of the RSFSR adopted the Declaration on State Sovereignty of the RSFSR.
This is a relatively new public holiday. Previously, it had a different name - the Day of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Russian Federation. And only since 2002 it began to be called shorter and more concise - Russia Day.
The holiday date was established in 1992 by the first Russian President Boris Yeltsin.
On Russia Day, many solemn and festive events are held throughout the country, in which people of all ages participate. This important holiday for Russians symbolizes national unity and reminds us that the present and future of the country depend on our common efforts, labors and achievements.
