Programmer's Day was established by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation on 11 September, 2009. The holiday is celebrated on the 256th day of the year. This choice is explained by the fact that 256 is the maximum possible number of elements of any system with 8-bit coding. In this case, 256 = 28, where 2 symbolizes the binary number system, and 8 is the number of bits in one byte.

Since 2024 is a leap year, the holiday celebrations fall on 12 September instead of 13 September.

The role of programmers in modern society is very great. The fruits of their labor are used by millions of people around the world in various spheres of life: in education and science, in industry and business, in medicine, transport, space exploration.

Every year more and more students choose this popular and prestigious profession. You can get it at the Saint Petersburg State University of Architecture and Civil Engineering by enrolling in one of the bachelor's or master's degree programs: 01.03.02 Applied Mathematics and Informatics, 09.03.02 Information Systems and Technologies, 09.03.03 Applied Informatics, 01.04.02 Applied Mathematics and Informatics (program: Information Technology and Mathematical Modeling in Construction), 09.04.02 Information Systems and Technologies (program: Programming and TIM-technologies in Construction), 09.04.03 Applied Informatics (Development of software for solving problems in the field of construction).

Olga Yarkova, Acting Head of the Department of Information Systems and Technologies, spoke about the training of specialists in the field of programming at SPbGASU. According to her, within the bachelor's degree programs, a series of disciplines is aimed at mastering programming skills: "Programming for Computers", "Software Development/Object-Oriented Programming", "System Programming", "Cross-Platform Programming", "Programming in Python", "Programming for the Internet" and a number of others, covering the entire process of studying at the university.

"Students master several programming languages and modern software platforms for application development. As part of the master's degree programs, students master programming technologies in graphic packages, specialize in programming in the construction industry. Our graduates successfully work in the field of programming and, starting from their senior years, find employment in the companies Grokhotov Studio, OOO PERKO-VEB, OOO AvanSoft, OOO Topvisor, Quantori, The Invaders, GC Monopoly, OOO Simetra Group and others," said Olga Nikolaevna.

We congratulate programmers on the holiday and wish them professional success!
