The SPbGASU International Students Council summed up the results of the first semester and encouraged active students.

The effectiveness of the activities of the International Students Council (ISC) is increasing from year to year, so this semester activists have something to speak about. The ISC chairman Antonia Angelova reported that the ISC representatives took part in the All-Russian Student Forum “Multinational Russia” in Voronezh, the School of Self-Government in the Dormitories of the North-Western Federal District in Petrozavodsk, the International Historical School “Common History as a Resource for the Joint Development of Russia and the Member States of the Commonwealth Independent States" in Kyrgyzstan, All-Russian meeting of interethnic clubs in Moscow.

Antonia became the winner of the XIX International Forum-Competition of Students and Young Scientists “Current Issues of Subsoil Use” in the nomination “Modern trends in architecture.” The master's students, the ISC deputy chairmen Sabrinakhon Solehzoda and Aigul Orazdurdyeva were among the laureates of the competition in the higher education system “Student of the Year 2023”. Second-year student of the Faculty of Architecture Myakhri Niyazova, fourth-year student of the Faculty of Civil Engineering, head of the ISC mathematics club Gayur Mukhidinov, Sabrinakhon Solekhzoda, master's student of the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building Murodali Niyozov, Aigul Orazdurdyeva were among the best students from the CIS countries, awarded by the Government of St Petersburg.

– We also organize educational cultural events for students, which allow them not only to relax, but also to unite. Everyone liked the one-day tour “Veliky Novgorod - the origins of Rus'”, the traditional celebration of National Unity Day at SPbGASU, concluded Antonia.

Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Sergey Mikhailov emphasized that at SPbGASU much is done according to tradition, and this certainly brings good results.

– Active members of the International Students Council not only strengthen the traditions of the university, but also establish and develop their own. New projects open up new opportunities for students. You represent SPbGASU in the best possible way at various all-Russian and international platforms, make a significant contribution to the prestige of the university, and we will, as always, support your initiatives,” he noted.

  • Sergey Vladimirovich recalled that SPbGASU occupies worthy positions in international university rankings. In the current academic year, about 700 students from 64 countries are studying at the university. The number of foreign students continues to gradually increase. International accreditation of a number of educational programs has been successfully completed. The activities of the preparatory department for foreign applicants are being developed.

Among those awarded with SPbGASU diplomas is the head of the mathematics club Gayur Mukhitdinov. He graduated from a Russian-language school in Tajikistan, competed at math olympiads as part of the national team of the republic and knows firsthand how difficult it is for many students to master this discipline.

– I conduct mathematics classes for internatinal first-year students, who already have difficulty in this subject, and then there is the language barrier. That’s why the club is gaining popularity, a lot of guys are involved in it, including online,” Gayur shared.

Master's student of the Faculty of Automobile and Road Building Murodali Niyozov has been working on the International Students Council since the first year of his bachelor's studies. He is the main organizer of all events. He says that he came here by accident, when Antonia Angelova, then still the ISC deputy chairman, invited him first to the youth forum “We are all different, but we are together!”, and then to her team.

– Already at the first meeting of the council, I felt an amazing, friendly atmosphere and met active guys. It’s not difficult for me to combine social affairs with studies: we hold all events in the evening, so for us it’s also useful, interesting leisure time. We are now developing a club of adapters who will work with foreign students, thereby reducing problems due to the language barrier. We continue to enroll in the club and are waiting for students speaking English and other languages,” said Murodali.
